Gr 6-9-In this third installation in the series, Pierce at last relieves fans' concerns about who will take on young Keladry as a squire. After hanging tough with the page program, she is at last ready to take the next steps down the road to knighthood, accompanied by her friends and her faithful mutt. To her sorrow, she is not selected by the Lady Alanna, who taps Neal for her squire. Kel is chosen by Lord Raoul, commander of the King's Own, and she quickly discovers that she has landed the better situation. She soon finds herself fighting centaurs, cleaning up after floods, and caring for a baby griffin. Kel's nemesis, Joren, fails quite badly in the Chamber of the Ordeal, which will leave readers nervous about her own designated time there. What she faces in the Chamber nicely sets up the next book in this series. Pierce continues to create a broad range of fully realized characters, even if Raoul is a little too good to be true. Her plotting is sometimes a little rushed and Tortall often seems more like background scenery than a real place. However, the author has created a strong female protagonist who accomplishes her goals with her integrity, sense of humor, and her self-esteem intact. She faces decisions about sex, her relationships, and the effects both will have on her personal life and her future career as a knight and commander. Kel's fans will delight in seeing the parallels to their own lives, and Alanna and Daine's fans will enjoy seeing their favorites, if only in cameo roles.-Patricia A. If Kel believed once she made it to being a Squire, it would be an easy ride to Knight, she was very mistaken. New challenges come, the first being the task of finding a knight unusual enough to want the Girl as a squire. Kel doesn't say so, but in her heart of hearts, she wishes to be Alanna's squire...but will Alanna take her on? Will Kel be disappointed? Will you read this book? Well, you definately ought to!
My favourite book of m,y favourite quartet from this author. Kel has struggeled against devistating odds and finally made it to the rank of a squire. But nobody wants to take 'the Girl;' and what's the point of being a squire if you don't have a Knight to serve? Finally some-one doeds step forward. But if Kel thought that being a squire would be easier than being a Page, then she was sadly mistaken. A brilliant read.
I loved this book! We meet Kel once more and this time she's made it through the page level of training and is now a squire. I thoroughly enjoyed Pierce's inclusion of knights from the Lioness series, including Alanna herself and Raoul.
In the third book Kel is thrust into the world of men when she becomes a squire in the King's Own. With jousting, adopting a baby griffin and even the threat of a little romance in the air, Kel has a lot on her plate! And all the while her final test before becoming a knight, The Ordeal, looms in the background.
Squire Kel wanted nothing more then to be The Lioness's Squire, but that dream was quickly replaced by despair when she realized it would never be true. However, when Lord Raoul of Goldenlake and Malorie's Peak offers to be her Knight-master, Kel accepts, for secretly she had also dreamed of being his Squire.
Life with the Kings Own was not how she expected though, if anything, she had to label it as fun... but when she saves a baby Griffin, even time with the Own seems to have lost it's fun. And now, Cleon, one of her friends, is acting rather strange, and Neal seems to be as well.
Find out what Happens to Kel and her friends in this action packed book.
This is absulutley the best of the 'Protector of the Small' quartet! Probably because Roaul is in this book and he is a fave character of mine.
Kelandry of Mindelin is now a squire and is very worried about who's going to pick her to be their squire. She is hoping that the legendary Lioness will pick her but it isn't working as she had hoped. Finally Sir Raoul of Goldenlake picks her and she gladly excepts. She then travels with the kings guard (for that is what Sir Raoul does).
This is a wonderful adventure full of action, romance, and is a blast to read! Tamora Pierce created a wonderful story and I hope that everyone reading this review will give it a go because I know for a fact that you'll enjoy all the hard work Pierce has put into this! Read SQUIRE!
Keladry finally makes it to the field with all the challenges it brings. She has to deal with the men's prejudice and prove her worth amongst seasoned fighting men. Already Kel is showing flashes of brillance which suggests that she will not be just an ordinary soldier. Another enjoyable book in the series.
yuck i hate that baby griffin! it annoys me how its so self centered. good book but like the lady knight series focusses too much on the fighting! bring back the drama i say. good to read if you have read the reas of the series, however if you havent dont bother with this as it is so boring at times! yuck at th griffin again.
Kel is now a squire but this is not the best book of the quartet to read as ot gets a bit silly. Still it has its fare share of twists and excitment and Kel proves to men that get put under her command that she is not a wosey girl but a warrior in training who is every bit as good as they are!
A best part of this book is the baby griffen he is cute in his own way!
Now a squire Keldry is put into a world of knights. the newby on the scene she has to deal with ridicule and I love the griffin. it is clear that Tamora has raised wild animals as they are ungrateful little wretches. You see the start of a romance and I won't spoil it by telling you who but it is a little surprising. this year Keldry is going to learn how to work hard.
