This read-aloud guide to other lands weaves history into a storybook format. This volume in the series covers the major historical events between 1600 and 1850 on each continent, with tales from each culture.
Reviews
This works wonderfully as a family read-aloud... There's plenty of dialogue and enough detail to keep adults interested. --Cafi Cohen, author of Homeschooling The Teen Years

Susan Wise Bauer has written the Story of the World series through four volumes, this being the third. Each book is written as a novel, but filled with facts and historical figures that become lifelike through her pen. She has maps showing where each chapter in located and writes everything chronologically. That, to me, is the only downside of the books. You can be in China, then the next few chapters be in Japan, England, South America, then you're back in China again.
She also has Activity Guides to work with alongside these books, but they are best for primary aged children.
There is nothing else like them so they certainly fill a niche!
