This set of plays is brilliant to own, the three plays are almost a trilogy and infact are even though they were written in the reverse order. Sophacles wrote the tragedies to win the festival Dionysia. At the beginning of each play there is a short summary of the play and the history behind it. Each play is accurately and thoughtfully translated. This edition is brilliant and displays a relevant piece of ancient literature, a good buy, I strongly recommend it.

i studied this in my last year of highschool (focused on Oedipus), and enjoyed it immensely
not just due to the rather tragic and morbid plot, of course, but it was just so eloquently written. there are a lot of interesting themes embedded in these plays, such as fate, devine intervention, the extent of control one has over his own destiny... give it a go!

A set of three stories about the life and down fall of King Oedepus and the events which follow. A classic example of Greek tragedy and wonderfully translated from the original by the Greek writer Sophocles. The stories explore many philosphical ideas and are good read.
