Format:Paperback / softback, 360 pages, Revised Edition
Published In: United Kingdom, 24 September 2009
This title profiles the personal challenges that TCKs experience, from feelings of rootlessness and unresolved grief to struggles with maturity and identity. Highlighting dramatic changes brought about by instant communication and new mobility patterns, the new edition shows how the TCK experience is becoming increasingly common and valuable. The authors also expand the coverage to include cross-cultural kids, children of bi-racial or bi-cultural parents, immigrants and international adoptees - all of this bringing hidden diversity to our world and challenging our old notions of identity and home.

About the Author

Ruth E. Van Reken, herself an adult TCK and a parent and grandparent of TCKs, is author of one of the first books written about the TCK experience, Letters Never Sent. David C. Pollock worked with TCKs and adult TCKs for more than twenty years and logged thousands of miles conducting seminars and conferences for TCKs, their parents, and sponsoring organizations.

Reviews

Growing up as a TCK has been a gift and has significantly shaped my life and work. As I interact with world leaders one day and with those living in refugee camps the next, I continually draw upon my experience of living among different cultures. I am delighted to see the lessons learned from the traditional TCK experience live on in this new edition of 'Third Culture Kids'.--Scott Gration, Maj. Gen. USAF (RET), President Obama's Special Envoy to Sudan

5 of 5 Stars! – Customer review on 11/11/2009

I put off buying this book for a while, as I thought I could glean most of what I wanted to know from the internet. I was STOKED when I read it though. As someone who has grown up overseas in several countries across the world, this book spoke to me like a calming angel on the shoulder.

It makes sense, it's easy to read, it's written by a fluent communicative human being and it's even got a nice sized font.

Definitely must be read by ANYONE who has grown up overseas or is in a relationship with someone who has. Also. ANYONE who is thinking of bringing their kids up overseas or in a mobile manner and cares about their long term well being. It will do wonders for your understanding of TCKs/global nomads.

Beg, borrow or steal this one. Alternatively, order it online.
