Excellent practical information, improved cultural suggestions

The Lonely Planet guides are very often the best when it comes to providing practical information such as maps, changing money, the best way to get from A to B, etc. This edition of the Tokyo guide is no exception. It has everything you need to plan your trip and to get around Tokyo.

This edition is also an improvement over the prior editions when it comes to cultural recommendations, such as restaurants, walking tours, interesting shops, museums, etc. The "Time Out" guide is probably still better is the cultural department, but it is weak when it comes to maps, etc., so it may be worth taking both guides.

As usual from the Lonely Planet crew, this handy guide to Tokyo is packed full of information.

Has what you would expect from a guide, Accommodation, Eating, Sights, Entertainment etc suggestions. I have particularly found the information on accommodation especially helpful as it can be pretty much guaranteed that they have found places with quite a reputation. (Sawanoya Ryokan is where i will be staying).

For anyone looking at travelling to Tokyo, i recommend this book for helping to plan your trip or even just as information on what you could do on your trip.

On a side-note, those looking for a handy little Japanese phrase book, should look for Lonely Planet's version, as it is small but also very helpful. Luckily for us, Fishpond also has this item in their catalogues.
