It is really important to buy the latest Lonely Planet for the destination that you are visiting so that you can take advantage of all the fresh information. Bars and Restaurants (particularly given Melbourne's vibrant scene) seem to change around a lot. We found the centre city map so useful that the book never left our hands. The information on shopping tours, and events was really good, and we will probably arrange our next Melbourne trip to take better advantage of the shows that are on. The lonely planet guide has also made a nice souvenier of our visit, and we have added our own comments into the margins to help us to remember the trip!

Definitely the best guide to Melbourne available on the market at the moment in New Zealand. I was disappointed to find that Berlitz did not produce a small Melbourne guide but was pleasantly surprised when I discovered this Lonely Planet book. I will actually be buying another copy from this site for a friend as it really does contain excellent up to date information, good maps and is a great small size.

This guide was given to me recently by a friend and it was absolutely invaluable for my trip to Melbourne. The information is clearly presented and relevant. I found this new edition to be better than the 2004 guide that I had owned previously. A lot has changed in Melbourne. Indispensible. 8/10.
