Is fantastic for anybody looking to travel to all the new zealand locations where Lord of the rings was filmed. Includes a map of locations and a detailed description of what was filmed at each site. Is helpful if planning a holiday and also includes a example day by day plan one might follow during their holiday.
Lord of the Rings Guidebook is awesome for any fan. Here you can find and read about the locations of the movie. A awesome book but locations interest in any case is limited. So good clear easy to read. But don't expect to be thrilled. Recommended for all fans. Pretty good.
What a blast. We took the original edition on our tour two years ago and will be taking the extended edition this year. We also took a GPS with us and called our tour, "GPS to Mordor: there and back again," and dutifully listed the references we achieved in our trip diaries. Through unseasonal sleet and floods and snow we had more fun than anyone deserves hunting the references and squinting at the photos. "It's this tree. No No. It's that one." We went places we would never have dreamed of going otherwise, met fantastic people and saw astonishing country given a specific quality of discovery by finding the associations. Travels by quotation: "We're going to Rivendell to see the elves," was a particular triumph. The additional trivia of filming and background simply added pleasure to the reading at night while checking the next day's itinerary. Without being a textbook, we certainly found it got us where we wanted to go as close as we needed to get there (except for the parts of NZ that were under water at the time). Think of it as an invitation to get out of the house and go find your own adventures.
This book is great for any fan of the movie trilogy or for that matter, movie making in general. In fact it's even great for those of us that just love great scenery. I lived in Wellington for a while and it was interesting to see locations as I drove around and took scenic walks. This book provides directions and everything. It even has spaces for your own personal notes. A great book to read.
I picked this up at a local bookstore and its as good as you could hope for. Easy to read and locate the places of LOTR, awesome pictures which helps. I checked out some of the places, I was able to find them with ease. Good book, recommended for all Lord of The Rings fans and those simply interested a like.
I purchased this book on my trip to New Zealand and was able to find every location mentioned in the book! Of course by the time you get there, many of the locations are just isolated desolate lots of land with nothing much going for it. The instructions are really accurate and you should be able to find most of the locations. Also has information on where the crew hung out when they were in Wellington. It's just a great book to have whilst travelling New Zealand!
This was a relatively good guide for wanting to find out more about the great movie The Lord Of The Rings, but I was somewhat disappointed at the lack of content covered. It largely showed what was filmed where, and gave some interesting trivia from the show, but was not really a location guide book as such.
Excellent buy for anyone who knows anyone who is a fan of this great movie, or anyone who is coming over to New Zealand specifically for all the Lord Of The Rings tours that they can go on! This book is a really handy guide, as you do not necessarily need a real life guide, as you can simply use this book with its handy to read format and instructions, and find everywhere yourself!

This is a great book. I bought a copy for my English family member who recently came to New Zealand and we interested in the Lord of the Rings trilogy. They found this book to be an invaluable resource as they toured our fine nation and sought out their favouite movie locations and now have photos of themselves at the actual places. Great present!
