– Customer review on 19/02/2007 Probably my favourite of Gerald Durrell's books. It charts his life in Corfu as a young boy with an unhealthy obsession for animals. If you like descriptive, flowery language... this book is for you. Durrell is wonderfully (although at times, long windedly so) descriptive that you can really imagine every thing he's written. I can still remember a phrase he used to describe his sister's face: like a bowl of scarlet porridge. Classic stuff.
