After devouring the first two books in the series, I could barely wait for the third and final instalment of the King Raven books. I was unsure if the third book could live up to the other two...boy I was wrong! The story Lawhead has weaved is true to the original essence of the Robin Hood stories, but takes all the polish off the characters, they are no-longer matinee movie characters, but real people, with a real battle on their hands. The villains are not cardboard, stereotypes either, and the whole series from the first book, to this fantastic climax is a joy to read. I am looking forward to revisiting this series in the future and highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a well researched and well crafted story.

The final book in Stephen Lawhead's trilogy in which he attempts to place Robin Hood into a factual setting of middle ages Britain. He has deeply researched the period and attempts to recreate the story but where it really would have occurred, if it had. Essential reading for any fans of Lawhead's fantasy work, or of historical fiction in general.
