In this prophetic call to faithful Christian living, Marva Dawn identifies the cultural attitudes that destroy hope in our modern lives. Because affluent persons don't know what to value - how to choose what's important and weed out the rest - we remain dissatisfied with what we have and are compelled to want more. Dawn demonstrates, however, how Christians can organize their lives to live in ways that allow them to love God and neighbour and, in the process, alleviate the despair in their lives and in the lives of others.

This book is all about hope, or at least the hope that Christians are to have but that sometimes seems to get trampled under all the cares of living ordinary day life. And as usual, Marva J. Dawn writes with intelligence, passion and insight to produce one of her very best books. She critiques what it is about our society that sucks away all our hope and offers reasons why we seem to be esy targets sometimes. And more importantly she offers a way out, she places before the reader a picture of the Christian hope and ways to make it come alive in us. A must read (and if it does nothing more than make you listen Mahler's 2nd symphony or read "The Phantom Tollbooth" then that's good too).
