The newly hatched thingamajig is very blue and very plain. He is different from all the other thingamajigs, so he has no friends. Then, one day, he begins to change. This colourful, innovative counting book shows young children how numbers work, and celebrates the wonder of difference.
A beautiful story with an equally beautiful message told by a clever storyteller. The very blue thingamajig starts the story being picked on by other creatures for his appearance - according to them, he is dull. However a transformation soon happens and, each day, he grows something new. Children will love guessing what he grows using the fold out flaps as a hint. By the end, he is a magnificent and unique creature however still endures bullying from the other creatures who think he is a show off. There is, however, a happy ending with him finding another thingamajig who thinks he is perfect, just the way he is.
Also watch for the other story going on in the pictures which involves a bird building a rocket out of numbers. It's definitely a book that can withstand frequent readings and became a favourite in my Prep grade.
