Highly recommended! Whether you’re new to Zen or have been studying it for years, is perfect for both It starts by explaining the background and history of Zen. Zen was inspired through the influences of Tao and Buddhism in China in a time Buddhism was very influential and Tao was very much cultural. This book also discusses the principles and practices of Zen and how they have evolved to cater to the multitude for the better or the worst. Alan Watts although repetitive at time I felt did a great job at conveying the message across through the use of different schools of thought, which in the end provided boundless insights to Zen.
