About the Author

Mandy Stanley was born in Lowestoft, Suffolk. She has a BA from Nottingham University which led her initially into a career in fashion. A subsequent interest in the drawing and illustrative areas of her occupation, coupled with an earlier course at Great Yarmouth College of art and design, initiated a move into freelance illustrative work.

Animal sounds abound in What Do You Say? by Mandy Stanley. Saturated colors in simple blocky forms represent different animals. On one spread, cat and mouse appear together, lending the answer to the titular question-a giant "meoow" and tiny, trembling "eek eek"-a whole other meaning. Set against contrasting pastel backgrounds, the creatures are centered on each page with their sounds written in playful fonts underneath.
