It was supposed to be simple. All Navy SEAL Nathan Malone had to do was rescue three young girls from a Columbia drug cartel, then allow himself to be captured long enough to draw out a government spy. That was before his mission went disastrously wrong...and before his wife, Bella, was told that Nathan was never coming home.Bella's mourned her husband's death for three long years. But she has no idea he's still alive. Forced to assume a new identity, the man Nathan is now dead. If he can get back to his wife, can he keep the secret of who he really is...even as desire threatens to consume them? And as danger threatens to tear Bella from Nathan's arms once more?

This is my favourite of the Elite Ops series so far. Nathan and Bella are are deep and likeable characters and their love and devotion towards each other is endearing. Despite everything they've been through, they've never stopped loving each other and are finally given a second chance at a life together but first, they have to uncover and defeat a monster of a villain. Lots of danger and suspense, intense emotional issues and sizzling love scenes are all in this compelling book that starts off a brilliant new series.

A Leigh classic. Love the plot, its a classic romance with an edge, and amazing sexual tension built up and up, and maintained till the end even once they link up again. OK so the whole drugged induced hyper-sex drive is a little ridiculous (can't help but thinking that there would be more pain than pleasure in that state), but then this is fantasy so just go with it and enjoy. It packs an emotional punch too. Suspend disbelief (how exactly do eyes change colour and voices change beyond spousal recognition anyway?) and you'll enjoy and read again and again, I know I did.

If you've been following Leigh's SEAL series, some much better than the others, you'll know that part of the ongoing storyline is about Nathan Malone, a married SEAL captured by bad guys and drugged and tortured for 19 months before being rescued and taken back home to recover and retrain. You'll also think you know what to expect--sex, adventure, sex, SEAL stuff, sex. As to the latter, yep, there is a lot of sex, and this time the way Leigh describes it often jars with the brilliance of the writing. To move from quality description and in-depth emotional expression to the often crude language she uses for sexual encounters is more than irritating, it's a disappointment. And please, what is it with Leigh and shaved Australias [the land Down Under]? Just the thought of waxing the whole country brings tears to my eyes, and then there's the whole prickle situation. It so doesn't bring sensual thoughts to the forefront of my mind, not to mention the fact that psychologists link men's liking of, um, an arid country to repressed yearnings for very young females. Naughty bad Lora Leigh SEALs. That said, however, 'Wild Card' is probably the best written of Leigh's SEAL books. The depth of it, the compassion, the quality is far beyond the others she has written, and many of their ilk. Nathan finally comes home to his wife, Bella, but the physically recovered but still emotionally wounded man comes back as Noah Blake. His appearance has been changed, and Bella is still to believe he is dead, but Nathan has always underestimated his wife, who understands that things are not always as they seem. Pity she didn't realise that about the people who kidnap her so that they can hunt Noah. An excellent book, a psychological drama with mega action in bed and out of it.

Wow. I really enjoyed the rest of the Lora Leigh Navy Seal's series, but this one blew the rest away. Thankfully I had a wet Sunday to start and then finish the book, along with a box of tissues for the sad bits (and no pesky interruptions). By the end (which I read 3 times) I was convinced that this was one of the best books I have read in 2008, right up there with J.R.Ward, Cindy Gerard, Gennita Low, and Shannon McKenna. WOW.
