Nicholas Ickle's excitement turns to frustration and undisguised annoyance as he is upstaged by a host of interesting characters crashing his book debut.
A gorgeous book to act aloud. my classes have the whole library in an uproar and it is a favourite of Prep through to Year 3 children. Students enjoy the interaction of joining in, 'Go Away! You're in the Wrong Book!', predicting the next arrival and discussing the illustrator's techniques of portraying Nicholas' emotion. Great to teach exclamation marks too! Plenty of discussion to be had about the many colourful characters who do not utter a word. Children regularly ask to hear this one again!
This has become a favourite book of mine. Children are able to predict what is coming next. I have used a lot of sarcasim with children when reading this big. It is full of expression and humour as different characters such as dinosaurs, queens and pirates invite themselves into the book and they are not wanted. This book ends with a fantastic twist. Suitable for children 4 years and up.
My daughter loves The Wrong Book by Nick Bland, she is autistic and when Nicholas Ickle keeps telling each character to 'Go Away Your in the Wrong Book', she laughes and laughes. She now reads the story out loud to us and knows it off by heart.
