I played this game prior to playing Halo 3. I didn't get it for the multi-player game just for the campaign. It was very engaged and I enjoyed it. I actually though it was a better game than Halo 3 but that may be because I hate the flood. In any event if you are thinking of getting this just for the single player experience do it. It is worth it. If you have a live account than all the better.

I only bought this game because ALL of my friends were buying it. Turns out one of the coolest games i've played. Especially the firefight and now the halo reach beta multiplayer. Reach will definetly be a sell-out. Shame all of the legendary editons are sold out =(

The game is really good, with the campaign being very well detailed, as you play in the one place, just unlocking different areas of New Mombasa as you proceed through the game. In multiplayer, the best ever map to customise (aptly named Sandbox) is included, and on it you can pretty much do anything you want, from deleting all scenery, to making a whole arena hundreds of meters above the ground (use the hovering teleporter when playing as the oracle in Forge). Better than the other Halo's as the difficulty is harder. When you run out of health you need to instantly go find help and can not just hide until you have full health again. If you like Halo and want a better challange this is the one that will do it. Overall, this is a hard choice to decide which is the best game in the Halo franchise (though Halo Wars is obviously not in contention).

The next installment of the Halo series offers a slightly new style of gameplay. The new protaganist is an ODST, and is weaker than the superpowered Master Chief we've seen in other Halo games. The gameplay offers more stealth options with silenced weapons, but still maintains that classic Halo feeling. The campaign isn't the lengthiest of campaigns, but the Firefight mode definitely makes up for it if you have a few friends you can play it with (it doesn't support matchmaking). Also included is the Halo 3 Multiplayer experience, plus all the additional maps thus far, and an exclusive map pack for Halo 3: ODST owners.
Ultimately, if you already own Halo 3 you'll be buying a part of it again, but this is a new experience, and many seem to prefer this campaign to the previous campaign.
