For the older Marvel fan there's plenty to go at on this generation's consoles, thanks to the likes of Marvel Ultimate Alliance and X-Men: Wolverine Origins. Younger Marvel fans, however, have been left a bit out in the cold. Thanks to Marvel Super Hero Squad, however, little merry marvelites now have plenty to keep them happy.
The game is based on the toy range and TV show of the same name, which takes familiar Marvel heroes and villains and gives them a decidedly kid-friendly Saturday morning spin. Doctor Doom is up to his usual nastiness, and his Lethal Legion of super villains has gotten its hands on the Infinity Fractals, fragments of the all-powerful Infinity Sword, which grant the user special powers. The Super Hero Squad isn't having any of that, so off it goes on a dire mission to recover the Fractals and save the world!
Players fight against and take on the roles of some of their favourite characters, such as Captain America, Dr. Doom, Falcon, Hulk, Iron Man, Juggernaut, Ms. Marvel, Silver Surfer, Thing, Thor and Wolverine, as they make their way through this fast-paced combat game.
Team-ups are encouraged, with drop-in/drop-out co-op being a major feature of the title.
Additionally, fans of the TV show will also be delighted to find unlockables that can be accessed throughout the game.

Super Hero Squad has some great promise, but never really lives up to its own potential. It’s obvious developer Blue Tongue knows what it’s doing, as the scripted videos are humorous and pretty well done (minus an obvious small budget for the animation), the spirit of the show is there, and the core brawling mechanic works just fine. There are some serious downsides though, centered around a wonky camera (especially during two player co-op), some poor AI, and a general lack of hand-holding for younger players.
