If mythology is all Greek to you, then Codemasters' Rise of the Argonauts could open up all sorts of new experiences.
It's a role-player developed by Liquid Entertainment (The Lord of the Rings: War of the Ring and Dungeons & Dragons: Dragonshard to name but two) and it sees you playing the role of Jason in his quest to bring his murdered wife back to life.
There's only one way to do this, and that is to seek, fight, plan and fight again for the mysterious Golden Fleece in order to gain its restorative powers.
This, of course, means finding the legendary Golden Fleece. So, you set off in your ship, 'The Argo' with a crew of Argonauts comprising Hercules, Pan, Achilles, and the lovely Atalanta. Each of the characters enables you to explore the various levels - all of which take the form of different islands populated by friends and enemies - inevitably turning up in various mythical forms.
Twisting the tried-and-tested 'levelling up' of traditional RPGs, Rise of the Argonauts uses a system that entails you choosing the right words to use to ensure that one of four gods provides you with new abilities and skills. This 'Deeds'-based system includes Ares (the god of War), Apollo (the Sun god), Athena (the goddess of wisdom), and Hermes - not actually a god, but the messenger of the gods.
Rise of the Argonauts takes place in Ancietn Greece, when the gods walked among humans and all manners of beasts roamed the lands. A place where the line between reality and dream seem to blur together and make anything possible. And that is, in fact, the premise of this entire game: Doing the impossible.
