When The Sims (1) came out, I was instantly hooked. It was hilarious, fun, totally addictive and something I'd never seen or experienced before. I got all the game extensions, addons and downloads for every expansion pack.
The Sims (2) was also pretty great but I was looking for a bigger leap of evolution, or gameplay advancement between 1 and 2.
And now, I have it with The Sims (3) is without a doubt my favourite of the whole Sims franchise.
Gameplay is vastly improved, so much more fun. Your Sims are able to travel from house to house so simply an easily now. They will ride their bike to the beach, or drive to work, and if you don't supply them with a vehicle, they can even run all over town, running down side-streets and main streets trying to find their way.
To build their skills, you can buy books at the bookstore in town. To have fun, you can go to a football game in the stadium.
To socialise, you can go to the art gallery, or out to dinner with a friend, sit in a café and watch the townies walk by.
To earn money you can become a writer, novelist, or gardener, as well as about a dozen other career paths. You can learn the guitar and go busking in the park, making money from passers-by who enjoy your musical styling.
You can swing on the swings in the park, or catch gorgeous, brightly coloured butterflies, collect quartz along the beach and you can go fishing and try to catch some of the different styles of fish, take them home with you and either keep them as pets or cook them.
The scenery and visuals are stunning. You can pretty much create any Sim you ever imagined - hair colour comes in three or four shades, skin colour is completely customisable, from white, to pink, to red, blue, black or even green. Body shape is much more customisable as well - from super-skinny and scrawny to plump and obese.
All clothing is customisable. You can change the colour and fabric or texture of every single item of clothing. Your Sim can walk around barefoot if you please and have up to five styles of clothing, and three different changes of outfit.
All in all, this is a fantastic evolution to the first two stages of the Sims, but this time it a giant leap for Sim-kind.
One thing, however, I can't wait until they release the expansion for animals and pets.
This game is amazing. There is just so much to do. Sims2 had a huge amount of custom material and this is reflected in the Sims3 as well. The ability to create incredibly unique characters with improved AI and gameplay. Characters freewill reacts to their needs, as opposed to a hungry sim going to paint. The ability to travel into the neighbourhood to see your workplace, school, go fishing or whatever is an awesome addition to the Sims. Young and old alike can appreciate the gameplay as it is non stressful and very easy to pick up with lots of tutorials. The online community skyrocketed after the Sims3 release so their is plenty of custom built homes and characters to play with if you get bored. Recommend.
I'm a huge sims fan but I gotta say I'm not that impressed with the sims 3. Firstly, I find that the graphics are quiet poor compared with the sims 2 and secondly, with hardly any custom content avaliable it truelly does bring down the quality of the game. With new rules and gameplay, the sims 3 is not for everyone. If anything, I'd wait on buying it until and expansion pack comes out.
