The Tour de France is one of the world’s greatest sporting events. A mix of individual heroics and edge-pushing grit, stamina and determination combined with intricate team strategy and complex logistical management.
Le Tour De France 2011 brings all this to the gaming screen as the gamer focuses in on a single rider through the mammoth competition and feat of endurance that is the Tour de France.
The teams competing this year include: Omega Pharma-Lotto (Belgium), Quickstep Cycling Team (Belgium), Saxo Bank Sungard (Denmark), Euskaltel-Euskadi (Spain), Movistar Team (Spain), AG2R La Mondiale (France), Sky Procycling (Great Britain), Lampre-ISD (Italy), Liquigas-Cannondale (Italy), Pro Team Astana (Kazakhstan), Leopard Trek (Luxembourg), Rabobank Cycling Team (Netherlands), Vacansoleil-DCM Pro Cycling Team (Netherlands), Katusha Team (Russia), BMC Racing Team (USA), HTC-Highroad (USA), Team Garmin-Cervelo (USA), Team Radioshack (USA), Cofidis, Le Credit En Ligne (France), FDJ (France), Saur-Sojasun (France), Team Europcar (France).
Players will get to race shoulder to shoulder with some of the greatest riders in the sport during some seriously intense stages with twists and turns that will push you to your limit. manage the efforts of your rider to get the most out of him over the 21 gruelling stages, riding honourably if you want to gain the respect of the pack. This is important, as your loyalty and actions over the course of the race will affect your reputation, which in turn will affect the strategies and alliances you form in order to win through.
Pretty good for a cheap title. The racing is good fun, it is a game that takes a little while to master but is rewarding when you do. There is nothing to it except riding either a select stage of the tour or the whole event. There are no additional modes and no multiplayer. You do not ride the whole of a stage, you have control over the crucial parts and the computer sims the rest. So for example you will always ride the start, end and intermediate sprints and also some of the hill climbs. Usually 3-5 sections per stage. The music gets very repetitive and the only commentary is a brief introduction to the stage.
For the next iteration, something more along the lines of F1 2010 would be nice, where you see improvement in your rider/equipment, work your way up from the bottom, get to negotiate for teams and have a bit of behind the scenes gameplay. Right now it is just one stage after the other.
If you are into the tour you should get this game, there is nothing badly wrong with it, it just doesn't have a lot of depth.
