Steven Spielberg's remake of the WWII life-after-death comedy 'A Guy Named Joe'. Pete Sandich (Richard Dreyfuss) is a daredevil pilot who dies while fighting a raging forest fire with his true love Dorinda Durston (Holly Hunter) and best buddy Al Yackey (John Goodman). Dorinda is so distraught at his passing that Al decides to come back as a ghost and sets about helping her find happiness with another man.
Synopsis

For all those who see him as a perfect master of all things cinematic, Steven Spielberg is fallible, and this film is proof of it. "Always" attempts to be touching and profound, but only manages to be cloying and sentimental. Spielberg is not good on romance, at least not based on the evidence presented here, and though the actors are very capable, the script is not worthy of them; it is very draggy and uninspiring. Best give this a miss.
