Randy Shilts wrote the definitive book "And the Band Played On" about the beginnings of the Aid epidemic, the people affected, the politics, health issues etc. This movie has that many well known actors in cameo it is good to think that that many people were happy to put their name to this cause. Because this book was so in depth, it would have been impossible to cover all it but, it does touch on all the most important milestones in the discovery of the virus, and the start of mainly the US government doing something about it
