Australia is an epic and romantic action adventure, set in this country on the explosive brink of World War II. When tragedy strikes and Lady Sarah becomes unofficial guardian to an enchanting mixed-race Aboriginal child (Brandon Walters), this unlikely trio join forces to save the land she inherited and embark upon a transforming journey driving 2,000 head of cattle across hundreds of miles of the world's most beautiful yet unforgiving terrain, only to face the bombing of the city of Darwin by the Japanese forces that attacked Pearl Harbour. With his new film, director Baz Luhrmann is painting on a vast canvas, creating a cinematic experience that brings together romance, drama, adventure and spectacle.

I was reluctant to purchase this movie as I had read some reviews which really shone a poor light on it. They went on about it being overacted and too long.....what a load of rubbish. This movie is a real inspiration, a beautiful depiction of Australian life in the outback and the struggles that go with it. The scenery and settings are all fantastic, and the acting completely touching and "wow"! I love the little boy in this movie he is cheeky and incredibly talented. I did not find this movie to be too long at all, I wanted more! Love it and we should be proud as Aussies for the rest of the world to see this flick.
The first half of this monster of a movie was quite enjoyable. It depicts a desperate cattle drive through the desert to the port of Darwin. I thought I was watching an Aussie version of "Red River." Nicole Kidman playing the terribly proper English aristocrat Lady Sarah Ashley winds up on a cattle ranch in the middle of the outback to sort out her dissolute husband -- but finds him dead.
An inspirational story about Australia's true history and what life was like back in that time for either race. I found this movie quite beautiful and very moving. I never cry in movies, but this one did bring a few tears to my eyes. An increadibly touching film.
