Synopsis
This splendidly entertaining family film was nominated for six Academy Awards, including best picture, director, and screenplay, and deservedly won the Oscar for its subtly ingenious visual effects. Babe is all about the title character, a heroic little pig who's been taken in by the friendly farmer Hoggett (Oscar nominee James Cromwell), who senses that he and the pig share "a common destiny." Babe, a popular mischief-making pig on an Australian farm, is adopted by the resident border collie and raised as a puppy, befriended by Ferdinand the duck (who thinks he's a rooster), and saves the day as a champion "sheep-pig." Filled with a supporting cast of talking barnyard animals and a chorus of singing mice (courtesy of computer enhancements and clever animatronics), this frequently hilarious, visually imaginative movie has already taken its place as a family classic with timeless appeal.

I loved this the first time I saw it. So clever and incredibly well done. As I watch it over and over I'm not so crazy about it but I guess that's to be expected. A great story for kids, not scary, the pig saves the day, etc, etc. Wonderful casting of Mr and Mrs Hogget. Recommended along with Babe: Pig in the City.
this is a real classic movie, about a talking pig. i personally do not really like movies about animals, and i couldnt really stand to watch this now, but i remember really liking it when i was younger, as there are some cute scenes involving some farm animals. babe goes on a quest to find his real family, and there are some nice morals explored. a good watch
A movie for the whole family. Cute talking pig makes good, turns out to be a sheep pig! Great script, great cast, great special effects, great movie. My favourite character was the duck, the scariest was the cat. Babe is so heart warming and sweet but not sacharine sweet. Great story, makes you think twice about eating bacon!.
An extremely quirky film that you won't mind watching with the kids. Not full of sappy platitudes, this strange little tale of a pig that wants to be a sheep dog is extremely effective in it's message without hitting you in the head with it. No doubt because it wasn't made in Hollywood... we Americans have never been good at telling children's stories without being condescending and heavy-handed with the moral message.
The story takes place in some fairy tale amalgam of all the rural cultures of the English-speaking world - Sometimes it seems like England, other times Kansas, Australia, New Zealand, it's really never anywhere particular. The acting is superb, the animatronics are unrecognizable as such, and James Cromwell is superb as the taciturn farmer willing to give the little pig a chance.
that'll do pig that'll do. i was really apprehensive when it came to watching this but while looking after a firends kids i found this to be the only thing to watch and so i watched it and absolutely loved it. the voices are great and has so many moments of being incredibly funny without being too dumb that make this an absolute classic, grab it as its very good.
Aww i just love this film, the little piggy is jsut way too cute, he is all pink and stuff i just wnat too hug him! This is a great film for kids of any age, i just think there is something great about amovie where the animlas talk it is like were are entering a secret world, ten out of ten!
This movie is beautiful. Talking animals are perfect for kids with their huge imaginations. All the characters make your heart ache at some point or another. Although this is a kids movie and is more likely to entertain those under 10, it is still a thoroughly enjoyable film for all ages as long as its watched with no prejudice and prior decision made. A great film.
Boy how i loved this movie as a kid, i dont really enjoy it now, in fact i dont at all like it now with the exception of how he says thatl do pig, thatl do, but i still gets a 5 star because its a kids movie and as kids me and ma sister loved this movie to bits
I love this movie, my kids love this movie and my mother loves this movie. It is a hilarious family comedy about a pig that wants to be a sheepdog. The cast is great the animals are great and the story line is excellent and extremely original. You will never see anything like this! i highly recommend that you add this title to youfamily DVD collection.
Babe is an absolute classic. I love it. A singing pig, how ingenius is that. Really one that the whole family will enjoy. Every character has a trait that some can relate back to a family member of their own. Espcially the wife. A must watch for all kids.
