The traditional Christmas tale will never be the same after this cleverly twisted, merrily irreverent story of a Santa so bad he's funny. Billy Bob Thornton stars (in a Golden Globe-nominated role) as Willie T. Stokes, a washed-up, wisecracking department store Santa who is only in the business for the criminal opportunities: Every Christmas Eve this Santa and his ingenious Elf Willie's midget partner-in-crime Marcus (Tony Cox) crack the store safe and make off with their own holiday stash. But this year Santa and his Elf find their annual heist endangered by a pesky store manager (John Ritter), a savvy mall detective (Bernie Mac), a sexy Santa fan (Lauren Graham) and an 8-year-old misfit (Britt Kelly) who decides to believe that Willie's intoxicated, acid-tongued and felonious as he is the real Santa.
This is a Region 4 disc, the local region for Australia.
This is hands down the funniest Christmas film of all time! Yep, it's vulgar. But, Bad Santa is one of the most unusual Christmas movies ever. Utterly hilarious and destined to become a cult classic. Billy Bob Thornton is perfect as the burned-out alcoholic who ends up saving Christmas for one troubled little boy. Expect profanity in a film that's right on the edge. John Ritter is a riot. Highly recommended.
One hell of a funny movie. Turned Santa upside down. From a loving old friendly man to a perverted, horny thief. Couldn't stop laughing throughout the film and isn't that chubby kid just so cute! hahaha a must watch and have. Different to most Santa films...although throughout most of the film it's just sex and dirty jokes the end of movie is sad!!! and really nice!
Forget Jimmy Stewart and that claymation crap! If you like Christmas movies with more of an edge and lots of comedy however, "Bad Santa" might just be your new favorite holiday movie. In my mind, usurping "A Christmas Story" and "Scrooged" as the funniest holiday movie yet, Bad Santa (or BS as I like to call it) pulls no punches as it delivers a raunchy, yet funny, and yes, even a little bit of a touching film.
Billy Bob Thorton is a drinking, fornicating, defecating thief who freeloads for the whole year, only to work 25 days in December while robbing a mall of all it's holiday proceeds. His partner in crime is Tony Cox, Santa's little person helper who keeps him sober and lucid enough through the season to not royally screw things up.
I won't go into details, because frankly the plot needs work. But the acting is superb, the script hysterical, and the unbelievable jokes and inappropriate situations are just so entertaining you won't care about anything else.
Bernie Mac and Lauren Graham deliver polished supporting roles, as does John Ritter in his final film role before his death. The kid doesn't have many lines (and I want to slap him for the ones he does deliver), but just looking at him makes me laugh, so I can't complain there.
Basically, this is the ultimate inappropriate Christmas movie; one that makes you stand up and scream, "Holly s*!t I can't believe they did that!" This movie is just so blatantly wrong, the only other film I can compare it to is "South Park: The Movie." Just as South Park crosses every line of decency that previously existed, so does BS. A great movie because of it? Hell no. But a funny and entertaining one? Hell yes!
One of the most un pc comedies to come out for awhile, Bad Santa is about two crooks who each year play the Santa and his elf role at a department store, then rob it on their last day. Billy Bob Thorton is great as an alcoholic pathetic loser, on the verge of suicide who keep sgoing for no apparrent reason. Has a lot of shock value laughs that keeps it going.
After directing two of the most brilliant films in recent memory, the comic book documentary Crumb, and the best teen angst film ever, Ghost World, Terry Zwigoff makes the interesting decision of directing an anti-holiday film. I'm a big fan of vulgar humor, but the jokes here are just plain silly, especially after experiencing the brilliantly subtle Ghost World (in which the dialogue was also meant to be quite shocking in parts), but at least it has the fantastic Billy Bob Thornton in the title role.
I wanst really a fan of this movie, alot of people enjoyed it but i thought it was more the shock value that people enjoyed, i though it was just a rude crude movie without any actually good funny bits, though based on all the other feedback about it its proebly worth checking out
This is the funniest santa movie out there (for adults only) it is definately one to watch as long as you arent a christmas basher who will get offended. Billy Bob Thornton was the absolutely best choice to play this character and he does it so well. Full of dark humour and silliness, Bad Santa is an awesome movie
This is probably the best anti-holiday movie that I've seen (although to be fair there probably aren't many movies that fall into that category). As long as you aren't easily offended and can appreciate the film's black humor you will enjoy it, otherwise it might just seem nasty and unnecessary -but then you would be missing out on the joke.
Willie T. Stokes, (Billie Bob Thornton) is the worst mall Santa ever. He's Lucifer's bile-soaked response to the saccharine farce that Christmas has become, and he's hilarious. He's a chronic alcoholic. He's a thief. He's a pervert. He has the personal hygiene of a syphilitic leper, and he hates children.
So why are Willie and his diminutive sidekick, Marcus the elf, working at the mall? They're career criminals, and the shopping mall Santa gig is the perfect means of scoping out the premises prior to making off with a wheelbarrow load of stolen merchandise. Sadly for Willie, his plans are derailed by an attractive young woman with a Santa fetish, (Lauren Graham in one of the weirdest sex scenes I've ever witnessed), a cunning and equally avaricious store detective, (Bernie Mac), a lonely fat kid who harbours the delusion that Willie really is Santa, and his own partner's treachery. Hilarity ensues.
The film is vulgar, crass, distinctly low-brow and saturated in profanity, but it's also very, very funny. Willie is drowning in self-loathing and he just doesn't care. About anything. And he doesn't care if you know he doesn't care. It takes apathy of the size of China to wet yourself while sitting in Santa's chair in the middle of a crowded shopping mall. Or to have loud anal sex with a fat woman in a retail changing room. These are merely two of Willie's many indiscretions.
Bottom line: If you hate Christmas, you'll love Willie T. Stokes.
This is a good fun movie, and not for the kids, follows a bad guy who ends up with a job as a santa, he is a drunk and a rat bag but hooks up with some fun characters and befriends a lonely kid, lots of laughs and a dark tale to the normal xmas stories, billy bob plays a great part, good fun
