John Madden directs this British comedy drama starring Judi Dench, Bill Nighy, Dev Patel, Tom Wilkinson and Maggie Smith. The film follows the experiences of a group of elderly Brits who arrive to take up residence in a newly-opened retirement home in Bangalore, India. Despite its glossy publicity campaign, the Marigold turns out to be rather different from the refurbished luxury hotel advertised in the brochures. However, it soon begins to reveal some unexpected charms of its own.

Superbly-shot, acted and scripted. Some stereotypes and some predictable outcomes, true, but if you have Dame Judi Dench and Dame Maggie Smith, add Tom Wilkinson in a slightly different role, Bill Nighy exploring his dramatic side, you have a superb cast. Add the colours of India as a backdrop. Some of the themes will resonate with those reaching or perhaps past their first half century! Watch and enjoy ... If you have enjoyed Downton Abbey, then enjoy seeing one of the actors (/actresses) in a different character/role.
An excellent film with a very talented cast which I admired greatly particularly as having spent some time in India and the service provided by Fishpond was first class with no complaints
