An A-list cast headed EWAN McGREGOR, ALBERT FINNEY and JESSICA LANGE catch an adventure as big as life itself in visionary director TIM BURTONs feel-good fable BIG FISH. Critics and audiences fell hook, line and sinker for this story of a man, who tries to separate fact from fiction and man from myth to solve the greatest mystery in his life his father. Hailed as Burtons best since EDWARD SCISSORHANDS, BIG FISH is an amazing motion picture experience thats so enriching, so heart-warming, so funny, so touching and so breathtaking (Clint Morris, Film Threat).

I approach Tim Burton films with a certain trepidation. Will it be "Edward Scissorhands" or "Batman II?" With Burton you could get a quirky comedy, a dark thriller, or sweet morality tale. And there's always the possibility of Danny DeVito chomping down on a raw fish.
"Big Fish" combines Burton's unusual humor with a heart-wrenching story of a father-son deathbed reconciliation. Albert Finney and Ewan McGregor share the role of Ed Bloom, one of the big fish from the movie's title while an SUV-sized catfish plays the other. Bloom is a metaphorical and literal big fish in the small pond of Ashton, Alabama in this tale told mostly through flashback. Jessica Lange plays his wife and Billy Crudup plays the son, Will, estranged from his father for the past three years. Father and son are reunited as Finney lies dying of cancer.
Ed Bloom has spent his life spinning his personal history into mythological proportions: an early encounter with a very tall man becomes a battle with a house-sized giant; a rural village is depicted as heaven on earth; military service during the Korean War morphs into a behind-the-lines mission that would make Duke Nukem proud. Originally a true believer, Will now knows everything his father has told him was not just an exageration or even a tall tale but an outright lie. In his effort to understand the truth behind his father's stories he learns to love the man as well as the mythology. And Burton delivers a terrific punchline at the end of the film that left me both tickled and weeping, a truly weird emotional state.
Burton deals with mythic themes in "Big Fish." Besides the surface story of the generational tension between father and son he explores the metaphor of the big-fish-in-a-small-pond by examining the impact Ed Bloom has had on the lives he's touched in his workaday contacts with colleagues, customers (he's a traveling salesman), and people in the small towns across the South. Not exactly "It's A Wonderful Life," he still manages to show how all of us -- even the little fish -- have profound effects on the people around us. And of course love -- unrequited and reciprocated -- control almost all of Ed's many adventures.
The acting is wonderful. You will actually believe two Brits and a Scot (Finney, Helena Bonham Carter, and McGregor) are natives of small town Alabama. Lange brings dignity and brio to the role of the long "suffering" wife -- and she still looks great(!)-- you believe she has had a long and loving life with Finney/McGregor. DeVito is a delight in the role of a circus ringmaster. But the scene-stealer is Bonham Carter in the dual role of Jenny and the crone witch.
This movie is hilarious. I have never laughed so much ever. It has great acting, affects, dialogue, and especially superb humour – everything you need in a great movie. The movie does have a few scenes that drag out but all in all it’s a must have for all comedy fans and is suitable for basically all ages. It’s a must have, so buy it – You will definitely won’t be disappointed. Good!

This is awesome!! Finally, an original story! You can watch this and not once will you say/think, oh, I knew that was going to happen. A lovely take on a troubled relationship between a father and son, superb cast, very touching and really funny! I own this, and have watched it many times, better than good, it is great!
I remember seeing this movie on the Big Screen and although I was a little confused at times, found it to be generally intriguing and mystically drawing. The story seems fair enough and the acting is very good. It was sort of surreal and dream like which was the purpose I imagine. Nevertheless, it didn't think it was altogether that great and would not watch it again or own it.
This movie was alot of fun to watch. Although its a little hard to follow sometimes it is a really lovely story. Not really one you can sit the kids in front of, its aimed at an older audience, it might scare the wee ones because its quite dark in places. But a great fantastical movie!
a delightful rambling little film full of magic that viewers both young and old will fall in love with. a young man tries to connect one last time with his dying father and the film comprises of all the stories the father has told the son over the years of the wild years of his youth. highly highly recommended, a great film
This movie is much more enjoyable if you stop trying to make sense out of it and just enjoy the imagery and the ride. The scenes, photography, sets and special effects are amazing and are given a decent treatment on DVD -this is best viewed on a large screen to properly appreciate all the sights.
Big Fish is an ok movie, well thats what i thought on my first viewing, you sort of get caught up in this world and imagination. Upon a repeat viewing though it was quite tedious to get through and i didnt get swept up in the feel of the movie whatsoever. Not bad but not the best.
