you would think that a movie about a bunch of young surfers would be a complete chick flick, one that basically stars air heads and is made for air heads, but i was shocked to discover that this was actually a rather mature movie and kate bosworth proves her self an excellent actress. four stars
this was a pretty good movie, dealt with some interesting issues, such as fear. some good acting by all involved, especially kate bosworth, who played a sufer girl with ease. some good shots of surfing, really impressive stuff! a few gaps in the plot hole, but nothing to significant. overall, it is the perfect movie to watch with friends.
Overall the movie was cool for me. The storyline was so-so and there wasn't enough surfing. I did enjoy the bit of good surfing they had though. The main reason I bought the movie was because it was filmed on Oahu (although there were parts that I think may have been filmed in Maui but passed off as Oahu). The special features had some good footage.
For all you wanna-be critics out there trying to be negative about the directing and cinematography, lighten up! This film is excellent in the fact that it does not try to be more than it is... a surf flick. Its obviously not trying to win an Oscar or a bafta. cant any of you simply enjoy a feel good movie? the filming of the waves and the surfing was top class and even though the acting was not Oscar worthy in any way shape or form i think it was impressive that they embraced the surfing culture and used local people in this film.
For all of you out there who like to just enjoy a films and don't feel that you need to be completely baffled, shocked or made to think you will enjoy this. Yes it is predictable but who cares its just a bit of fun.
For all of you who hated this film just because the plot was predictable and the acting was substandard i draw your attention to a gentleman named Sigmund Frued; "Some times a cigar is just a cigar"
I had avoided watching this movie fearing it'd bore me to tears being too much of a teen chick flick.
But I finally watched it when it was on tele and I say it wasn't as bad as I had originally thought.
Kate Bosworth, along with Michelle Rodgriuez and others I can't recall the names of, all played excellent roles. I even liked the cameo from Layne Beachly. Can't make a surfer chick movie wthout her.
If you hate surfing and everything to do with it, then steer clear. But give it a go and you too may be pleasantly surprised.
I really love Blue Crush movie because three girls in the movie shows that surfing is not for male only. The story is so great that a surfer girl prepares for a big competition and she finds herself falling for a football player. I thought Kate Bosworth was very brave to take risk by doing surfing in the movie. And she is very good acting in Superman Returns movie!!!
Knowing this was more of a teen film before watching it, I was quite suprised when I found that I had rather enjoyed it. This about three surfing girls who learn about love, friendship and life in general. It includes some impressive surfing footage and lovely beaches are the main setting for this film. Kate Bosworth does a great job in this role. A good, light movie.
