well this movie is really a classic. a great performance by gary oldman and anthony hopkins, a couple of marvelous actors. this movie really is fantastic, any vampire movie/horror movie fan cannot go without seeing this!! a fantastic addition to your dvd collection, definitely give this movie a shot! no regrets!!!
One of the better modern Dracula films out there, due to the fact that it is closely based on the book by Bram Stoker. Gary Oldman is great as the creepy Dracula, who goes to England to claim his bride. There are a couple moments of confusion though, usually due to interesting camera techniques. Despite this, and some wrong references from the book, this is still a very gripping movie.
This version of Dracula is closely based on Bram Stoker's classic novel of the same name. A young lawyer (Jonathan Harker) is assigned to a gloomy village in the mists of eastern Europe. He is captured and imprisoned by the undead vampire Dracula, who travels to London, inspired by a photograph of Harker's betrothed, Mina Murray. In Britain, Dracula begins a reign of seduction and terror, draining the life from Mina's closest friend, Lucy Westenra. Lucy's friends gather together to try to drive Dracula away.
Based on the original Dracula storyline and giving it a more ‘true story’ image with real historical accounts such as Vlad the Impaler entering The Order of The Dragon. Who seemingly becomes the first vampire during the 1400’s. Out of anger and greif for his loved ones he renounces his faith. A must for all the true vapire lovers this I believe is one the most accurate accounts for the first vampire.
This is a pretty decent movie considering that Reeves is in the lead. Winona Ryder plays her usual spaced out self but it seems to work okay here too. The thing that makes it is that atmosphere and that includes the music, sets and costumes. The story in my opinion loses it a bit at the end but overall this is a good movie.
This is my all time favourite movie.
dracula has been re-invented so many times it's not funny,
this was the first to attempt to show a deeper side of the oldest character
combining the bram stoker storey with the real legands of vlad the impaler.
it is visually apealling, gothic to the very essance of the term and had brilliant acting from all cast. as to the material, what's the point of rehashing the same storey over and over if your going to do it exactly the same. not even bram stoker himself used the 'material' how it was ment to be. the transelvanians still hate him for it.
live a little.
this movie changed the face of vampire films to follow
brilliant.
I am a vamp fan and love all the different ways the story is told, this is more cinematic then gorey, good characters, good visual effects. Dracula is more old monster then the dracula we usally picture. Not as gorey or actioned filled as some vamp movies, but this is a good story with good characters and cast and good cinematology, worth a watch.
one of the better remakes of the many many vampire flicks that have come out over ... well basically since nosferatu. this one made by francis ford coppola is a stunning visual delight with some incredible cinematography, costumes, digital effects as well as editing. by far the most superior version of bram stokers dracula that i can think of even if it is not enitrely strict with the material.
I enjoyed watching this movie, I found the cinematography quite nice, with a strong favouring of the colour red, and the imagery of blood. This is quite an all star cast, and I found it highly watchable, and fun in a macabre sort of way. I think it does not work so well as on the edge of your seat horror, but is more a feast for the senses, and appeals to those who already have a preference for darker films.
While its not exactly faitful to the source material this is still a very good movie (Anthony Hopkins is especially good, so is Gary Oldman) and the special effects still hold up well even today.
Dracula is presented as less of a mosnter and more of a man in this particular retelling, although he still does have plenty of truly evil moments.
Not quite the classic movie its meant to be but certainly worth owning.
