Saw this movie when I was 12 years old and didn't grasp it as to be expected from a 12 year old. Saw it again recently and was amazed at what I couldn't pick up 1st time round. Kutchers best movie without a doubt.

I went to see this at the cinema when it first came out a few years ago and loved it! I later received the dvd as a gift however the ending was completely different to the cinema version which was quite dissapointing. Why change a great ending to a film!
Anyway there is the original ending in the extras of the dvd but it still has parts missing, from memory. Still a great film but the original ending was better..

Evan Treborn grows up in a small town with his single working mom and his friends. He suffers from memory blackouts where he suddenly finds himself somewhere else, confused. Evans' friends and mom hardly believe him, thinking he makes it up just to get out of trouble, something bad always seems to happen during these blackouts. As Evan grows up he has less of these blackouts until he seems to have recovered. Since the age of seven he has written a diary of his blackout moments so he can remember what happens. One day at college he starts to read one of his old diaries, and suddenly a flashback hits him like a brick!

wow this film is amazing! it really made me interested in the whole concept of time travel, and being able to change the past and future. ashton does a great job in this, and proves that he really can act. a whole bunch of disturbing scenes in here, i personally think that it should be r18, but whatever. a must watch!!!

I used to think that Ashton Kutcher was a bit of a chump but he performs his part well in this movie and as far as the movie itself it’s a good and interesting story. I still don’t know why the whole “effect” happens and it’s not really explained anywhere near adequately but regardless all the different potentials are realized quite well and make for a very enjoyable film.

This is more of a thirller than a drama but it has its drama elements, its a great movie where a guy had black outs as a kid and at a later age as he reads his diary he can relive those moments he doesnt remeber with his current mind therefore changing the past, its really awesome

I tried to get my partner to see this with me at the cinema, but somehow we never made it. We got it out one weekend on DVD, desperate for entertainment and we both loved it. We had not seen 'Donnie Darko', so it did not feel like a knock off to us, and the premise was something that has fascinated me since I was a child watching 'Back to the Future' and 'The Seventh Seal' -- that if you mess about with one thing then other things will change. Whether the story line is a knockoff or not, the movie is so well executed that it is defnitely worht a watch.

The theory that this film uses in its story line is very unique and if you can get past the fact that Ashton Kutcher is the star of this movie and not in a braindead comedic role then you will find that this is a very unusual yet intriguing movie. The first part covers the main character having these blackouts when he was younger and never fully understanding why, then later on he finds out the reason for these blackouts and tries to alter his life through these blackouts to set things right in his life in the way he thinks they should happen, but it's not until he figures out what he needs to do with his life that he realises what is going wrong and how he can fix it. There are a few small areas of confusion or inconsistency in this movie but otherwise it tries to carry out one person's view of what could happen with a scientific theory, that being the butterfly effect where if one path in life is taken differently to another then a chain reaction of events can happen that would be totally different to the previous path taken.

Very dark, but at the same time touching film about a boy who has blackouts, and as an adult finds himself able to access and change the past through his diaries. Yet each time he attempts to go back, he finds the changes he makes backfire. This facinating movie needs at least two views to begin to understand it.
