Born with a gift he didn't want - the ability to recognise the half-breed angels and demons that walk the earth in human camouflage - Constantine (Keanu Reeves) was driven to take his own life to escape the torment of his vision.
But he failed. Resuscitated against his will, he found himself cast back into the land of the living. Now, marked as an attempted suicide with a temporary lease on life, he patrols the earthly border between heaven and hell, hoping in vain to earn his way to salvation by waging war on the earthbound minions of evil.
But Constantine is no saint. Increasingly disillusioned by the world around him and at odds with the one beyond, he's a hard-drinking, hard-living hero who scorns the very idea of heroism. Constantine will fight to save your soul but he doesn't want your admiration or your thanks - and certainly not your sympathy. All he wants is a way out.
When Angela Dodson (Rachel Weisz) - a desperate but skeptical police detective - enlists his help in solving the mysterious death of her twin sister, their investigation takes them through the world of demons and angels that exists just beneath the landscape of contemporary Los Angeles. Caught in a catastrophic series of otherworldy events, the two become inextricably involved - and seek to find their own peace at whatever cost.

This is definitely one of Keanu Reeve's best movies. He's such a great actor, it's like Constantine came out of the comic book to do this film!
Although the film can get confusing unless you listen [and understand] carefully, I think the film is cleverly done and the story is not exactly your typical "save-the-world" theme, which is one of the things why I really love this movie.
Anyhow, I'd also recommend to read the novelization of the film. It's even better, I couldn't put it down.
Constantine is quite a good movie, althouigh it might get confusing on some stages. It features impressive things such as Constanine's weapon arsenals or the fight with the vermin man but at some stages it gets kinda confusing.
Couldn't really get into this movie. I'm not really the heaven and hell type of person so personally found this to be a little too religious for my liking. Don't get me wrong Keanu Reeves is an awesome actor and that is probably really the only plus to this movie. But I'm sorry not really my kind of movie.
Tedious and very funny Keanu Reeves horror movie that lacks not only the thrills but also a real story with an actual plot in it. The dialog is horrendously bad with scenes that actually has noting to do with the story being told and characters that adds nothing to the overall story at all. Keanu Reeves is painfully miscast as the occult detective John Constantine and the direction by first time director Frances Lawrence is spotty at best. The screenplay is a jumbled mess and it contradicts itself in certain scenes of the film and some of the performances are not up to par. There is some good in the film and that is mostly coming from the performance of Rachel Weisz, and she does more for it than the movie does for her. I actually cared about her character more than I cared about John Constantine and if I were the screenwriter of this movie, I would have cut John out altogether and just focus the movie on her. For one, it would have cut about half of the unnecessary characters that is in the film but also might have made the movie more focus in its plot because her character has more of a reason of being in the movie than Keanu's, who is just there for the mandatory overblown climax, which in itself incoherent because it raises more questions than the movie wants to answer
Enjoyed it more than the comics anyway. Keanu is surprisingly not too bad in this role considering that he seems incapable of raising his voice a note above his usual monotone pitch. Still with this speech impediment to deal with he does a good job of acting the part and the effects are great. Love the portrayal of the devil, and that hell on earth scene was the best.
Excellent movie, i have to say this was a really well done picture, alot of people have an instant disliking for the film as it has the whole biblical idea around it but it was brilliantly done, keanue reeves rocked in this movie, he did some top quality acting (well i reckon he did any way), the dude that plays satan is really creepy and awesome (hes from prison break)
John Constantine has been to hell and back. Born with a gift he didn’t want, the ability to clearly recognize the half-breed angels and demons that walk the earth in human skin, Constantine was driven to take his own life to escape the tormenting clarity of his vision. But he failed. Resuscitated against his will, he found himself cast back into the land of the living. Now, marked as an attempted suicide with a temporary lease on life, he patrols the earthly border between heaven and hell, hoping in vain to earn his way to salvation by sending the devil’s foot soldiers back to the depths. But Constantine is no saint. Disillusioned by the world around him and at odds with the one beyond, he’s a hard-drinking, hard-living bitter hero who scorns the very idea of heroism. Constantine will fight to save your soul but he doesn’t want your admiration or your thanks--and certainly not your sympathy. All he wants is a reprieve. When a desperate but skeptical police detective enlists his help in solving the mysterious death of her beloved twin sister, their investigation takes them through the world of demons and angels that exists just beneath the landscape of contemporary Los Angeles. Caught in a catastrophic series of otherworldly events, the two become inextricably involved and seek to find their own peace at whatever cost.
um yeah a pretty cool movie which kind of reminds me of spawn at times which was an absolutely awful movie. a pretty good adaptation of the comic i suppose it has some very cool inventions and some very dark a comic book like scenes, but overall the comics were better. an ok movie at the end of the day and maybe worth a watch.
I Love this movie! It takes you on a wild ride with a Demon Hunter battling with his own faith to save the lives of man kind where the spirit world has broken it's bonds. So it is up to John Constantine to put things right again. Be glad he is on our side....An A+ movie.
this ws a pretty good movie, if not at times hard to follow a little bit, i constantly needed someone to explain what was happening to me. keanu provided good looking entertainment, but i found his character a bit hard to like at times. some good action scenes bored me a bit, but had some great graphics!
