first of all, i'd just like to complain about the previous review. this person has obviously copied and pasted the same response over and over again, i have seen this response quite a few times, and some of them dont even make sense in relation to the film.
anyway, on a happier note. "life is beautiful" really was a beautiful movie. it was fully subtitled, which in my opinion made it elegant and exotic. the storyline was full of romance, drama, and at times it was heart-breaking yet lovely. i loved this movie, i thought it was a wonderful masterpiece, and i greatly enjoyed watching it.
The film starts in the 1930s when Guido relocates from the country to a large Tuscan town where he falls in love with schoolteacher Dora. She is already engaged to another guy, but Guido stills fights for her. The story continues 5 years later, during wartime, Guido is married to Dora and they have a son called Giosue. Guido is of Jewish origin, and he is sent to a concentration camp with Giosue and Dora follows them, only to be sent to another part of the camp.
What a wonderful premise for a movie. Truly engaging story about a family causght up in the horrow of Nazi Germany. Roberto is simply wonderful, he is an Italian livig treasure. It is available subtitled but please take the time to read it from the original becuase the dubbed version loses the sublties of the language that the subtitler seems to have captured better.
This movie is hilarious. I have never laughed so much ever. It has great acting, affects, dialogue, and especially superb humour – everything you need in a great movie. The movie does have a few scenes that drag out but all in all it’s a must have for all comedy fans and is suitable for basically all ages. It’s a must have, so buy it – You will definitely won’t be disappointed. 6/100
The first-ever comedy about the Holocaust, the Italian film Life is Beautiful isn't very good. About a Jewish-Italian man who, along with his young son, are taken away to a concentration camp, where the man invents an elaborate charade to convince his son that it's all a big game to shield him from the horrors of the situation. It's a pretty awful premise, and Benigni's goofy schtick can make him quite irritating to watch. Also, as with most films about the Holocaust, no effort is made to humanize any of the Nazi characters.
