Live action adaptation of the computer game, from the director of Event Horizon. Something terrible is lurking in the Hive, a vast underground genetic research facility run by the Umbrella Corporation, a faceless bio-engineering conglomerate. A deadly viral outbreak occurs, and in response, the Red Queen - a vast super computer that controls and monitors the Hive - infects the entire facility to contain the leak, killing all the trapped employees.
Alice (Milla Jovovich) and Rain (Michelle Rodriguez) must lead fellow commandos to isolate the virus that has wiped out Umbrella's entire research staff. The team soon discovers, however, that the workers are not really…dead. They are now ravenous, zombie-like undead prowling the hive. Will the team defeat the Red Queen and find the anti-virus in time? Or are they doomed to turn Undead? Who, if anyone, will escape the evil Hive alive?

If you are a fan of the 5th Element then you love Mila Jovovich in Resident Evil. Loosley based upon the hugely popular video game with the same name it is full of wonderful zombies and mutants. The Unbrella coperation is on a mission to develop the T Viris and an outbreak in Racoon City sees the city under threat, loved it.
Based loosely on the video game of the same title, a group of mercenaries go down into an undeground secret research lab after it has sealed itself off from the outside world and killed everyone inside due to a virus outbreak. They manage to get down to the core and restart the system easy enough, the only problem now is that all the zombies have been let loose. As far as movies based on video games go, this isn't too bad, with a healthy dosage of gore and action. Better if the movie followed the games plot more closely though.
I put this movie on expecting to be either one of two things at the end:
a) Scared out of my pants and unable to sleep (I'm such a wuss when it comes to zombie films) or
b) Sorely disappointed.
I found however that this game-adaption is a pretty good film! Mila Jovovich makes a very beautiful and sexy heroine - she is a very powerful yet sleek woman. She contrasts well against the equally sexy Michelle Rodriguez, who plays the part of strong and smart-mouthed Rain.
The movie is a bit gory but it doesn't detract from the storyline or from the visuals and action. As this was a very low-budget film, some elements could be fixed, but in my opinion this is a fantastic movie.
This is (sad to say) one of the better movies based on video games... I am not sure what the other reviewers are on about this movie isn't that gory compared to most R18 horror flicks and it certainly isn't scary (apart from the cheap frights where they just crank up the volume and make you jump). One word of warning DO NOT LISTEN TO THE COMMENTARY!! Seriously it was just 2 women chattering away about things not even remotely related to the movie.
eew. Ummm, where do I start with the movie. I can watch some horror type movies, but this one - oh gross. Too much blood and gore for my liking and I never was a fan of zombies walking around and eating people. I found it quite sad that some of the characters in the movie got eaten by the zombies, but that's the story and that's what you get. My hubbie thinks it's awesome, but sorry not for me.
I've never been a huge fan of alternative movies (as I'm a main stream horror fan), but I thought I'd give this movie a chance and I was pleasently suprised and actually found myself sitting up and watching intently. I've heard that this movie has been adapted from the game and although I have had no interest in the game, I think its probably a good reflection. I would highly recommend this movie to anyone who lives alternative and fictional movies.
I had high hopes for this film. I had heard (from media hype, natch) that it might be the first decent videogame based movie ever. So I went to see it, and for the first five minutes hopes were high, the slow zoom in with the crunching industrial soundtrack was amazing, but it was downhill from there. Mila Jovovich finding herself in a strange place was intriguing, as was the lead up to her returning to the underground city (despite screamingly awful dialogue) and all seemed good. It was when the zombies appeared that this film disintegrated into awful cliche ridden vacuousness. After that, it was just an awful, suspence-free regurgitation of superior films and videogames. I do not want to spoil the plot for those who have not seen it, but when a zombie based movie does not use the word 'zombie' once, and takes an hour to realise the aforementioned undead should be shot in the head, something is really wrong!
resident evil is a pretty good movie. i saw it after being a fan of the video gam and was curious as to what the movie was going to be like. i quickly forgot about teh game when watching it and was really interested in the mvoie, its was really entertaining. check this out if you too are a fan of the game.
This is an absolutly awesome movie, its scray as hell the first time you see it but i redomend you see it for the first time in the dark, this is more ahorror than a action, well worth checking out wether youve played the ames or not as its frekign awesome, you gotta love the red queens defenses
made the game look like rubbish, RE apocalypse was a lot better, though milla jovovich or whatever that girl's name is so hot, i couldnt keep my eyes off her the whole movie, i hope she gets in many movies, looking forward to the next release of RE anyways
