Make no bones about it, Disney's SNOW DOGS is a hilarious, action-packed comedy your whole family will love. Eight adorable but mischievous dogs get the best of dog hater Ted Brooks (Cuba Gooding, Jr.) when he leaves his successful Miami Beach dental practice for the wilds of Alaska to claim his inheritance - seven Siberian huskies and a border collie - and discover his roots. As Ted's life goes to the dogs, he rises to the occasion and vows to learn to mush with his inheritance. Totally out of his element, he faces challenges he's never dreamed of. There's a blizzard, thin ice, an intimidating, crusty old mountain man named Thunder Jack (James Coburn), the Arctic Challenge Sled Dog Race that's only two weeks away, and a life-and-death rescue. This fish-out-of-water, tail-wagging comedy is nothing bout doggone good fun and a celebration of family - both human and canine!

I watched this movie on one of the big networks last night, and ran across it purely by accident. Since I didn't even know the title, I had to look it up on IMDb. So, I read the other comments and decided to add my own. Sure, it was a predictable plot, but what isn't? Almost no story idea is new these days, just modified, re-packaged, and directed differently. There's still a lot to enjoy! I have to say, Cuba Gooding, Jr. was perfectly cast in his role as Dr. Ted Brooks because he's so well suited to slapstick and not just serious dramatic roles (which he excels at). I really enjoyed the way his character handled surprise situations. Being a Miami dentist and suddenly finding yourself across the continent in a completely different culture, especially in wilderness Alaska, can lead to some hilarious situations, and this movie went there. The dogs were funny (enhanced with some computer graphic features to occasionally make them humanized), and the dream sequence was good too. I also enjoyed James Coburn, who's tough guy image was perfect in this comedy role. Plus it was great to see Uhuru from Star Trek cast as Mrs. Brooks. Whatever others might say, that this movie is great for kids but dumb for adults, is just not true. As a well-educated adult, I still found it fresh and fun. For those commenter's who thought the movie was silly for just for kids: I guess some people just don't know how to have good clean fun!!
This is a great funny and action scense movie about a city guy who iherits a group of dogs in Alaska. He has to learn to controll his dogs. As soon as he recieves the dogs is down hill but once he gains contorl its great. Its a great family movie recommend to all who owns a dvd or vhs collection.
If you saw the original promos for this movie when it came out, you'd think it was a cornball movie about talking dogs - it is not. It is a clean, light-hearted comedy (with one mirage scene where the dogs talk to Dr. Brooks just before Michael Bolton talks to him from the cover of one of his CD's). It places a black dentist from Miami in an isolated, almost completly white Alaska town (Tolketna) where some people don't seem to own a toothbrush. Dr. Brooks tries to find out about his heritage as he explores the world of his deceased birth mother and looks for information on his bio father.
My mother loves it, my kids love, I love it. My husband can take it or leave it, but even after seeing it 50+ times, there are still a few lines he can laugh at. We have a lot of DVD's that collect dust, but this is not one of them. Oscar material? No. But it has a good cast and is funny enough to keep all but the grumpiest/pickiest person in your viewing group entertained.
i actually am a fan of this movie starring cuba gooding jnr, in one of my fave roles of his. there are few comedic moments in here, save a few that rely on slap stick humour, but the storyline is enough to make you want to keep watching this movie. some great shots of snow, this is a cute family film.
This was pretty painful to watch. You have to wonder what Cuba Gooding Jr was thinking when he signed on to do this. I mean his supporting actors were dogs pretty much. There wasn't much going on here other than an attempt to make this look like a cutesy Disney-style movie. I couldn't watch all of this and I don't expect many people above the age of 12 to do the same.
i have to say i watched 15min and walked out, i was feeling a bit grotty at the time but im not sure if it was that or the movie that influenced the walk out needless to say i walked out on this movie i have never ever done that before either and ive seen some pretty terrible movies, i dont think id consider watching this again but hey you might like it.
i foudn this a really enjoyabel movie, despite th fact that it was made for children really. had some funny mometns that kept me wanting more, and also some good action shots of the snow dog sledding. i normally dont like animal movies but this one really entertained me. cuba is a delight to watch as per usual!
I didn't think this was the best movie around. Comedy or otherwise.
For me though it was worth it to see these gorgeous sled dogs and the amazing Alaskan tundra.
Funny part when... oh hang on can't ruin it for some, but I will say funny when Cuba's character finds out who his father is.
If you love dog movies then this is a typical scenario in a lead character who isn't fond of dogs is quickly won over, even by the toughest of the pack.
Families would probably get a laugh out of it and enjoy when the race starts and he learns more about who he is.
