As usual, Disney manages to cater for everyone. A classic cartoon beginning, where a fair maiden sings and the animals are her friends and a prince on horseback returns her notes sung of love into a duet. They quickly go to the palace where on the way to the alter, the fair maiden Giselle, meets up with the handsome prince's stereotypical step mother, who pushes Giselle into a waterfall, where she falls out of Andalasia ends up in the middle of a New York street - as she puts it - where there are NO happy endings. Giselle is now caught up in the real world, but with classic cartoon naivety, costume and gestures. A handsome lawyer and his daughter take pity upon her and take her in. Cue hilarious scene where Giselle calls up the animals to help dress her and clean the apartment - herds of rats and cockroaches and pigeons arrive and the fun begins. Meanwhile, her prince comes to look for her with his minder who does not have his best interests at heart, and is secretly in love and cohorts with his evil stepmother (Susan Sarandon). Lots of singing, great costumes, and choreography and romance ensue and entertains as only Disney can. For the Mums out there - it may just be worth it just to see McDreamy (Patrick Dempsey from Grey's Anatomy) in action. Happy endings for all!
