The first Harry Potter movie, based on the Harry Potter series by J.K Rowling. I had high expectations for this movie and it did not disappoint. The characters are perfectly cast, and Daniel Radcliffe is awesome as a young Harry Potter. We follow Harry through finding out that he is a wizard, and to the school: Hogwarts; a school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Harry learns new schools and learns why he is so famous in the wizarding world.
of course this movie was never going to be any thing as purely magical as the wondrous first book of the epic harry potter series. how ever, the director, the writers, and of course, the wonderful child actors, do a stunning job of trying to bring the golden text to life on the screen
That's it! I give up! I surrender! White flag! My friends want to see the new Harry Potter that is about to be released this summer, The Order of Phoenix, but they looked at my like I just lost my head when I told them I never saw the Harry Potter films. They just said I've seen every movie yet I never saw Harry Potter? Well, I never saw the point since I don't read the books or wasn't interested in the films, it looked like typical kid's stuff to me. But my friends said they would not take me to see the movie until I've seen the films, it's now that I realize I got myself into trouble since these movies are all 2+ hours each. I just finished the first one a couple days ago.
Harry Potter lives with an extremely cruel family, but there is something different about him, he can talk to snakes and make things appear and disappear. Well, he receives a letter, he's a wizard! Not just any wizard, he is the only wizard ever to survive the wrath of Voldemort, the most wicked wizard. Harry goes to a magical school, Hogwarts, where he learns the truth of his heroic parents and meets two other wizards, Ron and Hermione who soon become his best friends and they discover the power of the sorcerer's stone and what might happen if it's put into the wrong hands.
Harry Potter I have to admit is off to a good start with me, it had wonderful and magical effects that anyone could enjoy. The actors were just so perfectly cast, Maggie Smith, Alan Rickman, John Cleese, we have some of England's most brilliant actors. It's a well made film, now I still haven't read the books, so I can't base this film on a comparison. Even if I did, this is the movie and the movie itself is a magical and enchanting experience. Well, I'm onto The Chamber of Secrets, wish me luck.
For those of you who haven't even read the book you don't even have to.
This movie is made so you don't have to know the storyline.
You get to know the characters well and because this is the first movie in the series it introduces you to what is coming in the future movies.
I think all the special effects paid off it really makes this movie so great.
This was a great movie and has lots of detail.
This movie is an introduction for the films to come. It followed the book reasonably well and also gave enough insight for people who have not read the books to enjoy and understand it also. A movie for the entire family to watch and enjoy. The soundtrack but john williams is awesome and gave a huge amount of mood and atmosphere to the film.

this was a really fantastic movie! so original and mysterious, full of humour, friendships, themes about loyalty, suspense and surprise!! i really loved it..all the kids were so cute, and their acting was fantastic considering how young they were back then. i give this wonderful tale 5 stars!! UNMISSABLE!!
Excuses that you cant compare the novel to the movie, and the fact that this is a set up to the world of harry potter makes this movie slightly dull and very one dimensional. The cast is a great start, besides Ratcliffe (Harry), not too much talent, but the likes of the guy who plays Ron, with many good facial expressions create some good light humor. If you havn't read it, it is best you do, or you will not get this movie very much at all and may end up turned off the series.
I had tried to get into the Potter books, and failed. With some trepidation, I looked at this movie. It has to be said I was pleasantly surprised by how interesting and well done the movie was. The story line was excellent, and it set up the Harry Potter character well, as he learns the truth about who he is and where he has come from. It was a good movie with a lively plot to it. I enjoyed it immensely.
The 1st movie of the HP series sure caught a lot of people's attention. It was a pretty good movie, and Daniel posed a fantastic Harry so true to the Harry in the book. I love it when Harry and Hermionie and Ron both strung a friendship and helped each other through homework and tough times! A not-to-be-miss film for all!
