This movie has a place in history – the story, the actors and the soundtrack have all stood the test of time. Julie Andrews made her career here as Maria the musical nun whose Mother Superior thinks she's better suited to caring for Captain von Trap's motherless children than spending a quiet life in an Austrian convent. Maria wonders if she's suited for anything. As she brings life – and music – into their rigid lives, romance enters hers, and they find themselves together battling the Nazi threat.
this is with out contest one of the greatest musicals of all time. julie andrews is simply magical as the governess who goes to look after the many children of captain von trapp, and become firm friends with them and eventually falls in love with the captain. this features some tunes which you will never forget
One of the best movies ever made, I never get tired of watching this movie. Julie andrews is awesome as the nun who gets sent to become a governess at the house of von trapp; to take up the job of looking after his 7 children. Maria begins to teach the children how to have fun and sing. Maria and Captain Von Trapp end up falling in love, but some things just don't end happily. When Captain Von Trapp is called up byy the Third Reich to join the the navy, he and his family must flee their beloved austria for a new place.
The music is brilliant. The actresses (and actors) are brilliant. The story is brilliant. Together, "The Sound of Music" is one musical that will remain a classic for all time. One of those you can't miss, and whether you love it or you hate it you'll have to admit, it's a beautiful movie. A tale of music, of love and of war, this is definitely a DVD for the collection!
This movie is one of the best in the world i love this movie especially the young lady that acted in this movie dosnt look like she has aged much in many year that this has been around. Fantastic movie i loved it to bits. The music is memorising and so is the acting.
While many people agree that the Sound of Music is one of the best films of all time, some are at a loss to adequately explain why; they buckle under and admit that there are parts that are syrupy, etc. Well, I'll tell you why it's the best movie ever (and I DON'T agree that it's too syrupy). It simply has everything one could want in a movie. First of all, it has a REAL romance - one where you can watch the characters slowly fall in love. It's not like today's movies where two characters meet and the next scene is them waking up together. Secondly, it has humor. Not syrupy or corny humor, but very wry, dry tongue-in-cheek humor. For evidence, look at the quotes. Baronness Schraeder is especially well-done in this regard. Her comments simply drip with ice. "Good bye, Maria. I'm sure you'll make a fine nun." You want to smack her. Thirdly, it's got adventure. The Nazis are the ultimate villains in any movie - WWII was as clear a case of good vs. evil as you can find, making it great fodder for films - and so it's great to see Maria, the Captain and the kids outwit them. Fourthly, it's got great music. Fifthy, it's got great scenery. And the plot and dialogue are astounding. I find new things to admire each time I watch. Finally, is there a greater scene in any movie than the nuns revealing the stolen Nazi car parts??? "The Sound of Music" does not just succeed because it cheers people up with syrup or song. It succeeds because it is a wonderfully-constructed, wonderfully-written, wonderfully-acted, brilliant movie. For me, no other movie can compare. Not to be obsessed with it or anything. :)
I greatly enjoyed this film. It was so in depth and the detail was fantastic. Great for the entire family! Even if your not sure about it at first, just have a look and you are sure to enjoy it. Definitely one of the best movies of all time. I just loved it. it was so fantastically fantastic. highly recommended. yes i enjoyed this very much, and i think that everyone should check it out! fabulous, i give it 5 stars.!

Maria had longed to be a nun since she was a young girl, yet when she became old enough discovered that it wasn't at all what she thought. Often in trouble and doing the wrong things, Maria is sent to the house of a retired naval captain, named Captain Von Trapp, to care for his children. Von Trapp was widowed several years before and was left to care for seven 'rowdy' children. The children have run off countless governesses. Maria soon learns that all these children need is a little love to change their attitudes. Maria teaches the children to sing, and through her, music is brought back into the hearts and home of the Von Trapp family. Unknowingly, Maria and Captain Von Trapp are falling helplessly in love, except there are two problems, the Captain is engaged, and Maria is a postulant!
this is another one of those classic movies that can be watched over and over again. this is a movie the whole family would enjoy. one of my favourites of all time and julie andrews does a wonderful performance. a true classic.
