Secret of Roan Inish The

Fiona Coneelly (Jeni Courtney) is sent to live with her grandparents Hugh (Mick Lally) and Tess (Eileen Colgan) on the West Coast of Ireland and through her new bedroom window see the distant island of Roan Inish.

She soon learns of the legend of the “Selkie”. Generations ago, an ancestor of Fiona’s took for his wife a beautiful creature who was half woman, half seal. He captured her by stealing her sealskin. The two had many children, all raised in a special cradle made from the wood of shipwrecks and festooned with sea shells. However, one day the woman found her sealskin and left. Since then the cradle has been handed down from family to family until Jamie, Fiona’s brother mysteriously sailed away in it and was never seen again….until Fiona takes a trip to the island of Roan Inish.

Synopsis

10 year old Fiona is sent to live with her grandparents in a small fishing village in Donegal, Ireland. She soon learns the local legend that an ancestor of hers married a selkie - a seal who can turn into a human. Years earlier, her baby brother washed out to sea in a cradle, and some think that he is being raised by the seals. Then Fiona catches sight of a naked little boy on the abandoned isle of Roan Inish, and takes a more active role in uncovering the mysteries which abound.
