You could say this is one of the greatest comedies ever, but we said it first! Life Of Brian is all about (and here's the big surprise) the Life Of Brian, who was born in a Bethlehem manger next door to Jesus. It's written and performed by the Monty Python lads, so you know what you're in for - if you don't put this DVD down and get out while it's safe. Featuring John Cleese, Eric Idle, Michael Palin, Terry Jones, Terry Gilliam, and the incomparable Graham Chapman as Brian himself.
Synopsis
Monty Python delivers a scathing, anarchic satire of both religion and Hollywood`s depiction of all things biblical with their second film. The setting is Judea 33 A.D, a time of poverty and chaos, with no shortage of messiahs, followers willing to believe in them, and exasperated Romans trying to impose some order. At the centre of it all is Brian Cohen (Graham Chapman), a reluctant would-be messiah who rises to prominence as a result of a series of absurd and truly hilarious circumstances providing ample opportunity for the entire ensemble (John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Gilliam, Terry Jones, Michael Palin, and Chapman) to shine in multiple roles as they mock everyone and everything from ex-lepers, Pontius Pilate, and the art of haggling to crazy prophets, Roman centurions, and crucifixion.

'Always look on the bright side of life, de doop, de doop de doop de doop de doo!' A real classic from the Monty Python troupe - if you are a Monty Python fan then you'd better have this one in your dvd collection. Especially at this price, it is a steal, and great family viewing.
This movie is hilarious. I have never laughed so much ever. It has great acting, affects, dialogue, and especially superb humour – everything you need in a great movie. The movie does have a few scenes that drag out but all in all it’s a must have for all comedy fans and is suitable for basically all ages. Buy it – You definitely won’t be disappointed. Lol
Story says that after the enormous success of "Monty Python and the Holy Grail", a reporter asked the comedy troupe about their next film project. Not having an answer for that, Eric Idle answered "Jesus Christ - Lust for Glory" as a joke, and it became their typical answer to questions about the Python's future projects. Fortunately, what started as a joke soon began to be taken seriously by the comedians as an interesting project to make, and they began working in a movie, not about the life and times of Jesus Christ (as they were unable to find anything to mock about it), but about the credulity and hysteria of those who follow messianic saviors. "Life of Brian" was the name of the movie, and as soon as it was released quickly became known as one of the funniest and most controversial works done by the Pythons, and not without a reason! The movie's plot is obviously, about the life of Brain Cohen (Graham Chapman), who is a poor Jewish boy who was born in Nazareth on the same day as Jesus. Years later, Brian is now a young man who has grown hating the Roman occupation of his country while working at the local Arena. One day Brian attends one of Jesus' sermons and among the crowd he notices Judith (Sue Jones-Davies), a woman who leads him to the rebel group "People's Front of Judea". Brian joyfully joins the rebels, but the missions given to him do not exactly end in the best way for the group. Things get complicated for Brian when after a bizarre series of circumstances, he ends up being confused with a messiah, and with this he gains an considerable amount of "devoted followers". Needless to say the Romans weren't amused....but this reviewer was.
soooooo funny! i have never laughed so hard before in my life! something to watch with the whole family! and dont forget the popcorn as well! yuuummm! i definatley recommend buying this you will NOT regreat this purchase at all! its oh so funny! u will laugh so hard!
This would have to be one of the most blasphemous films around, and one of the funniest. Featuring the whole cast of Monty Python, this is comic genius at its best. Even after dozens of viewings, I am still reduced to a choking struggle for oxygen.
Playing off the mistaken identity of one "Brian" as the Messiah, the movie is chock full of jokes at various levels. I loved every last minute of it.
Featuring John Cleese, Eric Idle, Michael Palin, Terry Jones, Terry Gilliam, and the incomparable Graham Chapman as Brian himself, you know this could only be great, the only down side is that drunk uni students will be ballsing up lines in some pub somewhere thinking they are funny
Another outing for Monty Python, this film caused a huge uproar with religious types, as it imitated the life of Jesus Christ, with a man called brian, who was born next door to Jesus. Filled with all the humour and catchy songs like the hit "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life", This is a must have for Python fans out there.
Brian is born in a stable on Christmas, right next to You Know Who. The wise men appear and begin to distribute gifts. The star moves further, so they take it all back and move on. This is how Brian's life goes. The Jews are looking for a release from the Romans, Spiritual and political decay, keep looking for signs and a group decides Brian is the Messiah. He cannot convince them he is not. He joins the Peoples' Front of Judea, one of several dozen separatist groups who actually do nothing, but really hate the Romans. While not about Jesus, it is about those who hadn't time, or interest to listen to his message. Many Political and Social comments.
"He's not the Messiah! He's a very naughty boy!" ahhh gotta love this movie. It has so many legend moments and funny moments. Though this film is at times bizarre, it makes it all the funnier! This is a must for every mony python fan, and even for those who like a good laugh and want to find out what is meant by "Always look on the bright side of life" whistles. Laughs all round!
great movie... i think it is among the best of the python films, definately better than the meaning of life. poor old brian doesn't have a lot of luck in this crazy caper. Cleese is excellent in his resistance leader role. try it out if you haven't seen it. Almost as good as the lesser known pyton flick yellowbeard.
