It’s time someone spoofed those sports-underdogs-who-come-out-on-top flicks and Dodgeball is just the movie to do it.
This slapstick satire tells the story of inept gym owner, Peter La Fleur (Vince Vaughn) who owns the aptly named Average Joe’s Gym. Opposite Peter’s drab establishment is the super fashionable Globo Gym owned by tycoon, White Goodman (Ben Stiller in hilarious pumped up mode - in more ways than one!).
Average Joe’s Gym is in trouble and unless Peter can come up with $50,000, the bank will foreclose. That’s good news to White who wants to buy Peter’s gym and put up a parking lot. But Peter has a plan – possibly his first ever: he’s going to get a team together to take part in the World Series dodgeball competition in Las Vegas. The prize? $50,000!
Five loyal clients make up Peter’s group but they are an oddball lot (one believes he’s a pirate) and they are joined by Kate Veatch (Christine Taylor), the attorney who has given Peter the bad news from the bank. Kate has her own reasons for wanting the sleazy White to lose out to Peter’s dud team –made funnier by the fact that Taylor is Stiller’s wife in real life. Teaching the underdogs the essentials of dodgeball, which he describes as “the sport of violence, exclusion and degradation” is one-time champ, Patches O’Houlihan (Rip Torn in fine form), their wheelchair-bound coach who’s played by Hank Azaria in a funny flashback.
Are these misbegotten misfits a match for White’s muscle bound team, the Purple Cobras? It’s not hard to guess, but there’s a lot of fun to be had in the lead-up. For a long time it looks like the underdogs might not have the force they need to come out on top – but the farce is definitely with them.
Synopsis
Grab life by the ball.
Peter La Fleur (Vince Vaughn) is a charismatic underachiever and proprietor of a rundown gym called Average Joes. The facilitys ecclectic clientele of decidedly less-than-average Joes is comprised of: a self styled pirate a scrawny nerd who dreams of impressing an unattainable cheerleader an obsessive aficionado of obscure sports a dim-witted young man and a cocky know it all who, of course, really knows nothing.
Peter's humble gym catches the eye of White Goodman (Ben Stiller), the power-mullet-sporting, Fu Manchu'd, egomaniacal owner of Globo Gym, a gleaming monolith of fitness. White intends to take over Average Joes, and Peters non existent bookkeeping is making it all too easy for him. A foreclosing bank has stationed attorney Kate Veatch (Christine Taylor) inside Average Joes to finalize Globos takeover of the gym. But Peter's boyish charms win her over and Kate joins his team of social rejects to beat the odds and their own ineptitude to try to save Average Joes. How? A showdown dodgeball competition against Globo Gym.

Dodgeball a tru under dog story is a hel;ariosu movie, ben stiller plays the part of the idiot so well (too well if you ask me lol) but really its quite a crude movie but its so awesome, the guy from fire fly plays pete the pirate so funnily and well basicly all the actors are awesome and play the movie to the bestest comedy recently released
Not a bad spoof on competitive sport even with the endless clinches. However the characters do make you laugh even if some jokes are over used and expected, but others are very good meaning that this movie was a decent fun filled movie and not some over the top teen spoof.
Excellent movie, This movie is soo funny from start to finish, the best acting ive ever seen by ben stiller, i wonder why hes so good at acting liek an idiot?, anyway the whole movie is filled with laughs, vince vaughn was surprisingly good as i havnt seen much hes any good in, id recomedn this to everyone
This movie is amusing because its people getting hit in the face, crotch or stomach with a Ball. It has a dumb humour, which still gets you laughing but is not as creative as some other Ben Stiller movies. Vince Vaughns acting is poor and almost non-existent, and there is some unnecessary crude humour at parts. But it does get you smiling and laughing quite alot. Best part - the training sessions...:)
Dodge Ball: A True Underdog comedy is a so so comedy starring the usually brilliant Ben Stiller, and the only occassionally great Vince Vaughn, as a couple of gym owners fighting to be dodge ball champions. The comedy here is largely on the physical side, but Stiller and Vaughn have enough charisma to carry things along.
A great Ben Stiller film about two gyms, one a huge corporation with the motto that you can never look good enough, the other a bankrupt small time gym facing being bought by mentioned gym unless the can come up with $50,000 dollars. Predictable formula still appeals as the gym members decide the only way to raise the money in time is to enter a dodgeball tournament.
i do not really like this movie, despite the fact that it has many comedy greats it in. i just feel like after a while, the same mix of ben stiller, vince vaugn, owen wilson and christine taylor gets a bit old. this movie was a bit dull, possibly because it was headed by vince vaugn, who i sometimes find to be a bit unenthusiastic. but fans of all their other movies are sure to enjoy this.
"If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball!"
I think dodgeball is one of those sports that non-sporty American kids hated growing up... Vince Vaughn doesn't appear to be acting, and Ben Stiller just isn't funny... still, the zany cast of characters works (look for David Hasselhoff as the coach of the German team!) The show-stealer though is Rip Torn as Patches O'Houlihan... lots of fun, but leave your brain at the door...
This is a great movie, Ben Stiller as an evil guy just works so well. In general he’s just a really funny dude when he’s playing over the top characters. Vince Vaughan is not as funny as the straight man, no where near as funny as he was in The Wedding Crashers but still this is a down and out funny movie and definitely worthy of keeping.
Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn steal the screen in this fantastic action packed comedy. It will have you in stitches from start to finish. Even though it is a silly movie is is light hearted and you will find yourself laughing anyway. I especially like the video clip after the movie
hahaah
