Identical twins, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, play identical twins, Roxy and Jane Ryan in New York Minute, a comedy that drops the famous twosome into the Big Apple for a PG-rated romp.
Physically, 17-year-old Jane and Roxy are a perfect match, but they are opposites in every other way. Prim and proper Jane is the smart one who – especially since the girls’ mother died – has taken it upon herself to be the “grownup” female in the household. Roxy is a tearaway rock rebel who skips school whenever possible – so much so that a tenacious truant officer, Max Lomax (teen movies’ favourite adult, Eugene Levy) has been on her trail for years. Max, however, takes his role a little too seriously and acts more like Dirty Harry than the local kid catcher.
Jane and Roxy find themselves travelling together on the same day that both have big plans in the big city; Jane is giving a speech that she hopes will win her an Oxford scholarship and Roxy – who’s a drummer in a band – intends to go to a video shoot and hand out a demo tape.
When a computer chip is dropped into Roxy’s bag, it’s the beginning of an unexpected adventure in which the sisters reluctantly have to unite to fend off some very shifty customers. The computer chip is vital to the operation of a black market music/video pirating outfit and the girls soon find themselves pursued by a suspicious chauffeur called Bennie Bang (Andy Richter) who has an even more suspicious accent!
The cross-town chase takes them to just about every part of Manhattan – including the sewers – and even onto the ledge of a skyscraper in pursuit of a dog that has just made a meal of the vital computer chip. While chaos reigns, both girls still have time to find romance; Roxy falls for a guy called Trey (Jared Padalecki), the son of a senator (Andrea Martin) who is the owner of the chip-eating pooch, and Jane (literally) keeps running into a good-looking bike messenger called Jim (Riley Smith).
When the neat and methodical Jane’s invaluable day-planner falls into Bennie’s hands, she loses her speech and, it seems, her big opportunity. The situation looks gloomy – especially when the two sisters’ differences send them on their separate ways. But even as the forces of law and disorder close in on them, things have a way of working out.

I went into this film with incredibly low expectations, after all it is only the olsen twins, but i have to say, i was pleasantly surprised. Mary-Kate and Ashley are actually very good comedians and this film shows it. it has a great storyline which keeps you entertained for the whole entire film, something that many of their tween films had been lacking, If you are a fan fo funny teen films, say films staring the duffster of Mz Lohan, then this is def a film for you.
Honestly, not a bad movie. Yeah, I did feel embarrassed getting it out of my local dvd rental place, but I was actually pleasantly surprised by it. Eugene Levy is, as always, a very funny man, and with him and the girls it does make for a fun watch. By no means a serious story, but well worth the effort of watching for those few laugh out loud moments.
OK about a month ago, the cable company was advertising the crap out NYM and to my surprise, it was a funny movie. What was more amazing the Olsen sisters aren't bad actors. NYM minute wouldn't be the type of movie I would pay $12.00 at the cinema (besides the shame factor), however if you do take the time to watch it, you might be amazed.
I know there are going to be a lot people asking me why do I like this movie? The answer is simple it is easy to follow and it's down right hilarious. Sure NYM wouldn't last a New York Second during the theatrical release, but it is suitable for a quiet night at home.
New York Minute may not be in the same category as House of Sand and Fog or Donnie Darko, but lets not forget it is a comedy.
dont boder wachting this if your over 10. it s soooo boaring that you jsut want to turn your tv.
im sure the twin could of find a better movie to paly. i think they shpuld quid movie and jsut make cloths for kids.
If you like stories about order and everything going according to plan, well then this might not be the movie for you. Join the well kown twins Mary-Kate and Ashley as they star in this fun filled movie about one good and smart sister and her rebelious twin. The one good twin goes off for an interiew to get into a good college, the other one is only coming along to crash a concert, but along the way they meet the guys of their dreams, pirate dvd smuglers and a group of crazy hairtylists who help and get in their way. But everything turns out alright and the girls end up have a blast, enjoy the movie, I know I did.
New York Minute is a very good movie. The movie is excellent for someone who are young adult and also whole family to watch it. The movie is about twin sisters haven't spend any time together for many years since their mother died. It's worth to buy the movie on DVD or VHS for collection.
