love this movie, the days of hot cars and great songs. Some top actors/directors starting out. For those that love nostalgia - this may be it for you. My whole family loves it from preschool to late (sob) 40's.
This movie is hilarious. I have never laughed so much ever. It has great acting, affects, dialogue, and especially superb humour – everything you need in a great movie. The movie does have a few scenes that drag out but all in all it’s a must have for all comedy fans and is suitable for basically all ages. It’s a must have, so buy it – You will definitely won’t be disappointed. Highly commended
George Lucas' wonderful coming of age film that takes place one late summer night, is one that inspired several other films, including "Dazed and Confused", and "Can't Hardly Wait".
Fine performances, superb directing, and wonderful writing make this one a winner that has endured over the years, and has solidified it's position as one of the greatest films of all times! "American Graffiti" is a film that can be funny without being stupid, and touching without being maudlin.
This is a movie that should be seen at least once by everybody, it was a great film in 1973, and is even better today! A very intelligent and believable film that only seems to get better with repeated viewings, and after seeing it for the first time, you will want to see it again.
"American Graffiti" is a wonderful film that has stood the test of time, and will stand the test of even more time! Thirty years from now, people will still be looking back on this and remembering how much of a superb film it was, and how many fine films it inspired!!!

This was and is a great, great, movie the way it was "originally" conceived! Then, DVDs came along with better visuals and the "required 5.1 soundtrack." Because of it's popularity, Lucas had to "improve" the already wonderful soundtrack inorder to "repackage" his wonderful creation. Well, you guessed it, he, or his audio engineers, ruined the sound by "updating" it. Yes, the visuals are improved but the "new and improved audio track" is barely acceptable which is a shame as there is so much wonderful music in this film. ("He must have changed the editing monitor speakers he used originally to a "better and improved version." The "new" sound track is simply too "accurate" and "uninvolving" on a modern sound system and does not capture the emotions of the original event as well as what you can hear on the "old" VHS and LaserDisc versions. Sad, as the "new" soundtrack, while sounding ok , can distract on a quality home audio/video system these days. Stay with the VHS or LaserDisc versions if your lucky enough to have them.
American Graffiti was the movie that broke George Lucas into the mainstream. The movie is based on his teenage days growing up in the early 60's in a small Northern California town. The movie starred virtual unknowns who went on to big Hollywood careers. Ron Howard was the only well known actor and the role of Steve was his first chance to play a more adult role. The film takes place over the course of one night where Mr. Howard's Steve and his best friend Curt are preparing to leave town and head off to college on the East Coast. Richard Dreyfus plays Curt and Cindy Williams plays his sister and Steve's boyfriend. Paul LeMat plays John Milner who is the cool guy in town with the fastest car around. He gets tricked into picking up the 13 year old MacKenzie Phillips and spends the night driving around with her. Charles Martin Smith plays the nerdy Terry the Toad. Steve entrusts him to watch his car while he's away. he cruises around and picks up Candy Clark and through a series of elaborate lies, gets her to park by the lake. The car is stolen, but they get it back with the help of John. The movie closes out with a drag race between John and Harrison Ford's Bob Falfa. The movie is spiced up by its soundtrack which helped bring back the 50's nostalgia that permeated the 70's. The film also introduced the infamous DJ Wolfman Jack to the country. The film is an unapologetic feel good, warm movie and its major success allowed Mr. Lucas to make another little movie by the name of Star Wars.
Classic 1973 film from George Lucas with a fantastic early 1960s hits filled soundtrack. Two mates are due to leave for college the next day, and so they spend the evening cruising the strip and encounter a whole rafct of comedic capers and incidents... Lucas' grasps the feel of 1962 exquisitely; Film critic Roger Ebert wrote, "[It's] not only a great movie but a brilliant work of historical fiction; no sociological treatise could duplicate the movie's success in remembering exactly how it was to be alive at that cultural instant. Boasts a stellar cast too - Ron Howard, Richard Dreyfuss, Cindy Williams, Mackenzie Phillips Paul Le Mat and Harrison Ford. A classic...
