The entire three seasons of Black Books in one set, this box set is really great value, adding up to around nine hours in total of this wonderfully funny British comedy series, created, co-written and starring Dylan Moran as Bernard Black, the reclusive and sour bookstore owner whose only friends are Manny (Bill Bailey), his long-suffering employee and tenant, and Fran (Tamsin Greig), who ran a curio shop next to Bernard’s shop and is probably the only person in the world that actually enjoys Bernard’s and Manny’s company. The series is a wonderful mix of dry wit, observational humour and brilliant slapstick gags that never get old. Included are some nice extras, including episode commentary and outtakes. Very highly recommended for humour-lovers that are fond of such classics as Fawlty Towers and Blackadder especially.
Dylan Moran and Bill Bailey are at their finest in this complete series of Black Books. If you want some very clever comedy with fantastic characters, this is for you. It will have you in stitches!
I was very pleased to find this boxed set. Black Books is a fantastic comedy and Dylan Moran (who plays the ever brash and drunk Bernard) is so funny he makes my sides hurt. This isn't just another silly comedy, Black Books is refreshingly different, a wee bit wacky and very very clever. Surprisingly enough, this is a very good value set too - I originally owned each DVD individually and can tell you that this is very cheap in comparsion to separately purchasing and is a nice way to keep them all together. Would make a great gift for anyone who has a quirky sense of humour. Look out for "Dirty" and, of course, the episode that started it all. The Litte Book of Calm will never be the same again! Brilliant, excellent, a must have.
I love the cynical humour in these shows... Funny how even depressing lives can become an hilarious reason to love life.
The main characters bring to life the world of book selling albet through sarcastic and often simple ways. I have this collection and find it great to watch when looking for something simple yet funny.
I got this for my mum on mother's day, and ended up watching all three DVD's in one day! The funniest thing I have ever seen, and all my friends and family agree. A great set and an amazing price! Don't pass it up, please. You'll laugh yourself to death at the antics of depressed bokshop owner Bernard Black and his half-wit assistant Manny, played by Irish comic Dylan Moran and legendary stand-up comic Bill Bailey. A must-see!
wicked funny british series black books is a must have for any fan of good comedy! this is a really hilarious series and will literally have u laughn out loud like it did with me! this is a must have if you ar a fan of the serires as welk. wicked buy for anyone of any gender and age! great stuff fun for famiy
If I had a bookstore it'd be like Black Books and I'd hope to get away with it all as well as Bernard does.
I don't like all Brittish comedy, but this is funny as all hell.
Bernard is cynical, rude, manic and a bit tipsy on the odd occassion, and it's always odd around this bookstore.
You don't have to be a book person to get the humor, just a sense of humor. It's not all dry wit and just Brittish funny, it's universally funny.
I haven't laughed this hard at a non animated tv show in... I don't know how long.
The whole lot in one box set makes it even better. If only there were more eps per series.
