This delightfully entertaining romantic comedy stars Reese Witherspoon as sophisticated Melanie Carmichael, a rising New York clothing designer who suddenly finds herself engaged to the city's most eligible bachelor. But this is no fairy tale romance for Melanie. She has skeletons in her fashion-filled closet that include Jake-the backwoods husband she married in high school who refuses to divorce her. Determined to end their marriage and sever all ties with her past once and for all, Melanie returns to Alabama. But home starts to tug at her heartstrings, and what she thought she wanted may not be what she wants at all.

Actually i really like Reese when she does comedy. She really did good job in potraying a New York girl, bitchy and demanding. This film is about a girl who is from Alabama who moved to New York 7 years ago. Then she find herself coming back to her hometown, Alabama to fix her unfinished business with her ex husband. The real question was will she ever fix the unfinish business or is she going to be reminded of who she really was?
Not a bad little romantic comedy number, featuring the ever beautiful Reese Witherspoon. This story shows that you can escape the little country town and make something of yourself - and every so often, it doesn't hurt to go back! It isn't a bad flick, but I must admit that it isn't one of my favourites. That said, it is still certainly worth seeing, even if it is just as a rental.
Sweet Home Alabama is a really cute movie. The cast is superb - Candice Bergen is a power hungry mayor and Ethan Embry as the hick with a secret - and so is the soundtrack. I like Melanie's transformation from hoity-toity to down home during the movie, Reese Witherspoon does a convincing job. I lost it during the scene in the coon dog cemetery when a lot of background info came out. There are also quite a few good, clean laughs. All in all, this is a movie I could watch over and over.
I love this movie because it's one of those genuine, heartwarming romantic movies that are so rare these days. The story itself is rather predictable but it's really fun to see Melanie go through her process of self-discovery to find the man she should truly be with. Also, the cast was great and really funny. Not to mention, Patrick Dempsey and Josh Lucas are soooo hot!
great movie! really captured my heart the first time i watched it, andf not just my heart, but my familys heart as well. if you like movies of this genre then you will definatley enjoy this film! if i was a teacher, then i would be giving this film an A+++++++ definatly something you should all go out and spend ur money on!
As romantic comedies go, this one is really quite good. It does (almost) keep you guessing and the accent is awesome! Definately better than legally blonde, it really secures Witherspoon's place in the world of adult acting (as opposed to the teen flicks she has done). If you are looking for light and entertaining - look no further!
i had extremely high expectation of the lovely blonde reese wither spoon after watching legally blonde but i was really really disappointed by this second movie of hers post legally blonde. the only thing great about this movie is reese wither spoon's southern accent (she is actually southern her self). worth a watch though
A cheerful typical romantic comedy, when I say typical do not get me wrong I did like it but typical romantic comedies go like this:
They Meet
They Love
They Breakup
They Get Back Together
And it loosely followed those lines, as I said do not get me wrong I did like it it was funny, but it was just so typical just like every other romantic comedy it is just exactly the same.
A cute romantic movie that will definitely appeal mainly to a female audience. Starring Reese Witherspoon in the main role of a former southern gal who reinvents herself as a New York posh highflier with the obligatory wealthy and suave new fiance. The rest of the movie flows predictably along as Witherspoon returns to the South to settle some family matters and attempt to cut her Southern roots. The movie is well cast with Patrick Dempsey and Josh Lucas as the two male rivals for Witherspoon's affections. Overall a light, cute movie.
This is a sweet lovely romantic comedy! Reese Witherspoon's performance is soo cute in this movie! She's such a blonde sweetheart! Going back to her memories of her childhood and youth in Alabama, she tries not to be dragged into her old self no more and it gets ugly with her so called "ex" husband when she needs to divorce him in Alabama because she's newly engaged to a wealthy man! A must watch!
