Last Tango In PAris despite its reputation is more an emotionally gruelling drama than an erotic exercise. ITs intense and incredibly raw, disturbing and ultimately very powerful as a grieving widower begins an anonymous affair with a fashionable younger woman. A movie that should be seen at least once.
I tend to steer clear of Bertolucci after having seen The Dreamers (which seemed like it was just an excuse for an onscreen orgy). Last Tango In Paris is just as sexually raw, but has an extrodinary quality that draws you in, something that is more than just the Marlon Brando factor. It may just be the honesty with which the ordinary tragedy of their lives are depicted that is responsible for my fascination. I highly recommend it!
