what a truely stunning movie. i think i read some where that the director or producer or some one hesitated to put nicole kidman in the lead role as she was too pretty (what kind of logic is that?) but i am sure glad they ended up casting her because she and jude law make this movie a treat for both the eyes and the mind. it is a touching tale of a young soldier who makes his way back across america to his true love, ada.
This movie was a good concept, and the imagery and setting of the South of America is beautiful, stunning and breathtaking. Renee Zelweger performed amazingly in this film, unlike we have ever seen her before. Nicole Kidman played her normal debutante role in this film, and of course, Jude Law was a big pull for the ladies to see this movie. It ran quite slow in parts, but all in all was a good movie and its nice to see some history slotted in there.
Cold Mountain's chief appeal lies in the absolutely beautiful scenery and cinematography, and the love story between Ada, a preacher's daughter, and Inman, a Confederate soldier. Filmed in the mountains of Romania, North and South Carolina, and Virgina, it is a relaxing pleasure to watch the seasons and the unspoiled beauty of nature. It seems to have been the filmaker's goal to return to a pristine time before the environment became ravaged.
Indeed, watching Cold Mountain is like stepping back in time, watching the horrors of the Civil War unfold in the South. The acting of the stellar cast is impeccable. The film is long, and moves slowly, but is a treat for romance lovers or history buffs.
seven acadamy award nominations, an exceptional cast, a renowned director, how could it fail? well strangely enough it does in some areas, a draw card of the film was supposed to be the subtle sweepig romance of two people at opposite ends of the social scale. However I think this may have been where it fell down. The acting was marvellous, it was well put together and historically interesting, but I felt the story was somewhat lacking and needed a few more plot points.
Its a good story, it was well done in most areas except 1, i really did not liek the way it flicked from her to there time wise, it jumps forward, then back, then formward, it was really not the way i like a film, other wise it was a good movie, good performances
I can defianlty see why this dvd has 7 acadmy nominations. This is an excellent film, that i highly recommend. It is a really goood dvd.The storyline has to be one of the best i have ever seen. it is one of those movies that you never forget. it pulls at your heart strings, an A+++++ film, a must have!
Two people in love are interrupted by the civil war, which sends all of the young men away. While gone, the women stuggle to feed themselves, and wait for the return to normality. Adequately staged, it is an enjoyable view throughout. There is one particuarly memorable scene between Jude Law and Nicole Kidman. After this scene, it isn't a cold mountain anymore!
Rather iditically ridiculous civil war romantic epic can't quite decide if its a sweeping romance or a quirky character study. At the center of it all Nicole Kidman's disturbingly smooth and rounded forehead gives a definite non-performance and Renee Zellweger sweeps in like a refuge from a different movie altogether. But although ultimately unsatisfying Cold Montain is oddly entertaining.
