When young French blacksmith Balian (Orlando Bloom) is approached by Godfrey of Ibelin (Liam Neeson), his life changes forever.
While Balian is mourning the loss of his wife and young son, Godfrey delivers news of previously unknown family ties. A highly regarded baron to the king of Jerusalem and deeply committed to keeping peace in the Holy Land, Godfrey reveals that Balian is his illegitimate son.
The grieving Balian agrees to join Godfrey on his sacred mission. And, upon his father's death in 1186, Balian inherits land and a title of his own in Jerusalem - a city in which Christians, Muslims and Jews have managed to achieve a peaceful co-existence during a brief truce between the 2nd and 3rd Crusades.
Sworn to uphold a noble oath and bound by unshakeable integrity, Balian finds himself in a strange new land, serving a doomed king and drawn to the king's enigmatic sister, Princess Sibylla (Eva Green). It is in Jerusalem that he rises to become the most honorable and heroic of knights, and ultimately must protect the city and its people from overwhelming forces.

Seriously ordinary epic from the highly capable Ridley Scott following up the triumpant epic qualities of Gladiator rather inexplicably. This particular wannabe epic is about a young blacksmith who finds himself drawn into the crusades in the holy land. But really its hard to care less, heavy going at the best of times and Orlando Bloom can't carry the lead.
This is a poorly scripted, performed, and executed drama. I have never seen a movie premise with so much inherit potential and drama compromised as badly as this.
The screenplay is unnecessarily dull and complicated. (But what more can you expect from the former editor of Spy Magazine?). William Monahan needs to take a good, long look in the mirror and try to understand the implications of his horrible treatment of such a simple and classic story. There are under-graduates (this very moment!) writing with a more basic grasp of screen-writing elements. Still, he has an excellent chance to REDEEM himself with Jurassic Park IV...
Orlando Bloom does an alright job in this movie. i was not a big fan of this movie. The only reason i watched this movie was because of Orlando Bloom and i thought he was going to do a great job but no hed didnt. 3/10
boring! this is pretty much all those dull period figher pieces rolled into one, apart from it stars orlando, so i guess that in itself makes it more watchable. there isnt much to really set this apart from all the others, and orlando needs to stop starring in these types of movies so he doesnt get typecast.
I know most people will disagree with me when I say this is a better movie than Gladiator but it is. It is about two cultures fighting for what they belive is right. It is a fantastic movie. The thing I don't like is that Ridley Scott seems to wimp out by portraying the Christians as bloodthristy and having the Muslims seem like heroes. Its almost as if hes afraid of upsetting people. Overall its a great film.
Kingdom of Heven has to be Ridley scotts best film since blade runner, and he's made some great films. This visually stunning epic follows balian, a metalsmith from france, as he finds out he is the son of a crusader knight. Balian travels to the holy land and has to fight not only the approaching islamic general Saladin, but also the war mongering, blood thirsty, fanatical christian crusaders. Mister Scott has done a fine job in the way this film treats the islamic warriors...with respect and humanity. in these times, this may be hard to do. It was rather unfortunate that this film was dismissed by most movie goers, as they truly missed an excellent film.
Supebr movie, i thought it was going to be more about the knights templar trying to get the holy grail but instead its about when the christians tried to defend jerusalem (or the holy land as its also known) from the msulims, orlando blooms awesome
Everything about this movie could have been good. The sets and cinematography, the extras and co-stars. The thing that let it down was Orlando Bloom. He’s not a bad actor but in my opinion he needs a bit more before he hits his peak. He just doesn’t have the emotional range to convince me that he could lead all those men in battle. Most of them have more emotion in a grunt then he did in an effort at eloquent speech. Still the movie wasn’t all bad. I enjoyed the sets.
Fab fab and just fab!! This movie got me in from start to finish! Just a great movie and another one of religion but you dont seem to notice and Orlando Bloom, he is just great in this role, differently one to to have in your collection and also to give as a pressie!!
I didn't really like Kingdom of Heaven because I thought it was a boring movie. I watched it at Drive-In Cinema and I thought it was a waste of time. But I think Orlando Bloom is a very good acting. I thought he was so great in another movies called "Troy" and "Pirates of the Caribbean".
