When Andrew Largeman returns to his hometown in New Jersey for the first time in 10 years to attend his mother's funeral, he is reconnected with the world he left behind, and meets a girl, Samantha, who may change his life forever. Having recently stopped taking the powerful antidepressants he had been prescribed for years, Largeman's journey of self-discovery prompted by his return causes him to have a more healthy rediscovery of himself, which includes confronting his psychologist father (Holm) and helping Samantha through her own psychological issues.

Interesting type of comedy seems a little dry at times, about an actor who goes back to his small fry town when his mother dies. The script is a little slow at times, but the cast do their best with it, and it has some pretty good moments throughout it. However, this isn't th sort of film you'll find yourself watching often.

Loved this movie. It's quirky, touching, and makes you think.
The music is fantastic! I bought the soundtrack after watching the movie.
The actors are superior, as always.
I'd watch it again!
There was something about this movie that I really enjoyed but it's hard to describe what that is. There's nothing really that unusual here but the things that are portrayed on the screen are so profound that you really feel for the two main characters here and the way that they try to run their lives. Natalie Portman is fantastic in her role as the outgoing independent girl and Zach Braff does well in a non-comedic role which he surprisingly organised himself.
This is Zach Braffs first movie, and because I think hes great, and knew the basic premise of the film I had high hopes. Unfortunately I was disappointed. Ultimately it was a satisfying movie, and had some very good parts, but so much more, something so much better could have been done with this story.
I'd say its a renter.
