Nice little film about an irish family illegally settling in the united states. Poverty and heartache are a fact of life, but within their scholar there are still the simple pleasures in life, and their love for one another. Overall this film doesn't have much impact, but it does have a little charm, and some scenes will stick with you.
A young Irish family move from poverty in their homeland to more poverty in the alien environment of the land of hope - America. Despite the traumatic subject matter In America is no dour issue movie its warm and vital and heartbreaking. The performances from the entire cast are stunning and the story is richly nuanced and subtle with strong direction.
this is a terrific film. simply put, it captures the families struggle and the racial problems of the times, and the 2 kids are both superb. Djimon Hounsou gets one of his first big roles here and is just so brilliant i cant express it, this film will make most people cry but you will be happy you did. This DVD also has a good package which the film deserves
