Wow. Girls old and young will adore this movie, I remember as a young girl pretending I know the fairy queen who lived at the bottom of my garden. This is a movie that will have those memories flooding back for all. I couldn’t love a movie more then “Fairy tale a true story”.
When I first saw the title and the packaging, I thought this film would be for younger viewers and that I'd probably be bored by it. I was totally wrong!!! What a completely enchanting film this turned out to be!!!! The story was wonderful and I wasn't bored for a minute. The two little girls who played the main characters were perfect for their parts. Part of the plot suggests that the girls' fairy photographs were a hoax, but then there are a few twists and turns that leave you thinking, maybe they do exist? Some visual effects were not overly done at all and they helped by enhancing the atmosphere and mood of the film. I could feel the fairy dust coming through the screen!! I *loved* this film and would watch it again and again!! A truly heartwarming, magical film!!
Fairy Tale is a beautiful tale of grieving parents wanting to have some link with their children. I dont know so much about the true aspect, but it is a wonderful story that is sad and happy, beautiful and ugly all at the same time. Recomended for adults and children alike.
this was a pretty good movie, i was a little confused when i watched it as to whether it was a true story, and what was going on, because there was a lot of controversy surrounding it all, but having watched it, it is a great family tale, filled with myth and legend, with some really magical scenes! great editing, the faries are very realistc. all in all, a good watch
I personally did not find this to be a children's film at all (though none of its contents are unsuitable for the young.) There are great liberties taken with the actual 'Cottingley fairies' incident, and one would think, from the film version, that the wee folk were seen fluttering through the air by young and old, where, actually, the photographs are so clearly a hoax that one must attribute the dramatic licence to a desire to stress believing.
For this is a rather tragic tale (in no way upsetting, but very sad) of those, such as Lucy's mother and Arthur Conan Doyle, who are suffering from deep bereavement, and who are seeking signs of contact with their deceased children. Believing in fairies - or anything beyond that is in the realm of the magical - is a means of coping for them. Sir Arthur, a man of great imagination and intelligence, is an ambiguous figure in this situation, needing the comfort of Victorian theosophy and other things magical as a means to cope with tragedy.
I shall admit I enjoyed the entire spectacle. Though it is difficult to believe that the public ever accepted the fairy photographs as real, it was nice to relax for a few hours, contemplating just what it would be like for people to look for a benevolent power, hidden but sympathetic. The recent Victorian era (during which fairies, unlike some of Shakespeare's, could be rather more troublesome than pleasant) had left the Cottingley group with a fascination with the romantic, combined with an optimism (which would not survive two world wars) which it is rather moving to recall.
Ok, so I'm a little skpetical about the word " true" considering she admitted lateron she made them up all but one ( and even then I swear she msut've been on something...lol).
But yeah, it's a great one for children so long as they aren't told that somebody really thought it was really. That's actually a little wrong....
A beautiful family classic to watch together. this will rekindle your belief in fairies and in humanity. Its is just simply gorgeous, a real delight, and Harvery Keitel is as always, excellent. More than just a simple kids fairytale, this is a classic for young and old alike.
One for the whole family to sit back and enjoy on a lazy Sunday afternoon/evening. The acting was superb including a favourite actor of mine, Harvey Keitel, and also Peter O'toole. The scenery is beautiful, the movie brilliantly filmed. A light and lovely tale of two little girls and their belief and discovery of fairies.
